Re: Accent keys abuse
Yes, but would it also be possible to define in the font that e.g. Alt +o+o produces 8 ?

Re: Accent keys abuse
For a moment I thought of a good use for some dead keys: key = lower case Latin, shift + key = upper case Latin, accent + key = lower case Greek characters, tilde + key = upper case Greek characters. Unfortunately either undoing dead key behavior or actually taking advantage of them turned out highl...

Re: Accent keys abuse
Sorry I mixed up things myself: some characters being mixed up happened in the passed having a US hardware keyboard while sometimes the NL keyboard was set in Windows. Always had by default two OS keyboards installed after a Windows installation: NL + US If (either accidentally or not) the Ctrl key ...

Re: Accent keys abuse
Aha, so it's a pure OS thing which cannot be overrided by font specs. Hmm, switching keyboard will cause a US keyboard in the Netherlands some characters to be mixed up (using normal fonts). So that's not really an option for private use and particularly not for fonts intended to be shared. Thanks f...

Re: Accent keys abuse
But can their functionality be modified to normal key behavior?
...in FontCreator that is; asking font users to modify Windows is not an option of course

Accent keys abuse
Hi, When creating a font at base level (empty list of open type features) the five accent keys on the keyboard (` ~ ^ ' ") remain behaving like expecting a next key press. In order to actually letting the 'accent' character show a following hit of the 'space' bar is required. This even applies ...

Re: How do I create a ligature for a certain glyph / code-point?
Hi Bhikkhu, Thank you so much for the informative tutorial and as you said for having extended it with another 'chapter' :-P Definitely looks something to get familiar with and experiment with first. I suspected the ligatures conversion thing would be a table-like feature because it makes so much se...

How do I create a ligature for a certain glyph / code-point?
Hi, Amazing: FontCreator menus, help, manual... I cannot find any support about creating ligatures. Can someone explain how to create a ligature for a certain glyph / code point? Example: one single glyph (non-keyboard range) looks like the word "Goto"; I'd like to type "gO" in a...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters
Hi Bhikkhu, Ohw, that's tricky! I thought the character replacement would take place after typing a space. Can one undo an automatically generated ligature by going back one character? Like automatic correction on a mobile phone/ tablet? I don't suspect it, though since the last character is already...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters
Oh, wait: switching keyboards is not required when using the custom keyboard software: one is just constantly using s single keyboard with increased functionality due to use of the special keys. It looks like there are two uses for custom keyboards: Custom keyboard 1: normal + larger unicode access ...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters
Certainly interesting matter here! Both ligatures behavior as well as those custom keyboards. How does it work in practice using the custom keyboards? Say I am in PagePlus writing (calculator font active) and while typing temporary need to 'switch keyboard'? Is the keyboard program to run which I br...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters
Hi Bhikkhu, Thanks for the clear info! 3: bummer! 4: From what I understood about 'ligatures' that's exactly the 'dead character' thing you are referring to. As far as I understood from that feature ligatures are individual glyphs super-imposed on the run (while typing) forming composite characters....

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters
Hi Leon, Thank you so much for your thorough and compassionate replies! I just checked out the link you gave and also did an internet search for keyboard layout mapping software. Basically an interesting tool for specific situations but I don't think constantly switching keyboard works out well for ...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters
Hi, No, I intended to create the font for it being useful for myself as well as to others. Therefore workarounds are no option. Fun, fun...usually useful doesn't go along with fun really :-P Re-inventing the wheel actually isn't applicable anymore; I created the two fonts (for Casio fx-4500PA and Ca...

Keyboard access to as many as possible characters
Hi, For designing a font simulating the display font of a programmable scientific calculator I intend to focus on two features: 1) pc font looking the same as on calculator display, 2) Optimum use of keyboard regarding quick access to as many as possible characters. The font contains many more chara...
