Database?

Hi, I was posting here back in February, asking about the possibility of MainType including a database. My main concern was the time I've invested in organizing my fonts into folders—not wanting the files to be shuffled around, and the ability to add one font to several groups (say, a different grou...

Sorry, had a brainstorm on day 35 of my 40-day trial. :) This happens quite a bit: I get a CorelDRAW or Illustrator file from a client along with the fonts necessary to work on it. What I'm forced to do with Font Navigator is copy all the fonts to my offline fonts folder (D:\FONTS), rebuild the data...

I guess that shows how much I know about programming. <blushes> I thought it was an extension of the standard windows API (I just realized that Windows explorer works *exactly* like ACDSee when it comes to selecting files). Well, keep it down at the bottom of the 'to-do' list and maybe one day it'll...

Wow, that's great, Erwin!
With a Database Maintype will quite easily jump to the top of the font management heap.

...and if you ask me, it's REALLY about time somebody made a truly world-class font management utility.

This could be it.

Back on topic, now... Erwin, why does MainType not use a database? The two most obvious benefits would be that 1) fonts could be sorted into multiple categories with no workarounds and that 2) only one copy of each font would be required, so users who have invested time sorting their fonts into &quo...

Re: An Aside

Sorry to go off-topic but... I am shopping around for another photo organizer as a result. (Tried Adobe Elements and ACDSee and both those look and feel like Win98 technology to me!) Dick, Don't be fooled by ACDSee's interface. While it's not winning any beauty contests it *is* a great tool to help ...

Oh, one more thing to borrow from ACDSee is the CTRL+hover feature, which previews whichever image (or font, in this case) is under the mouse pointer. Sort of like holding down just CTRL and hitting the arrow keys up or down to move the focus.

Just one more way to do things.

Navigation Ideas

Erwin, while we're on the topic of keyboard shortcuts, I have a suggestion which will make selecting multiple fonts by keyboard rapid and accurate. My proposed method uses the arrow keys in combination with the SPACE, CTRL and ALT keys. Here's how it goes: Unmodified arrow keys work as expected, mov...

Erwin, what do you have in mind for CTRL+/, CTRL+* and CTRL+- ?

Bhikkhu, I use those key shortcuts all the time. :)

I'm *really* big on keyboard shortcuts.

One Comment, One Issue, One Question

<comment> Hi, I just downloaded Main Type to try out. By far the nicest-*looking* font program I've ever encountered. At first glance it appears to be very well thought out and implemented. I'm going to play around with it and see what I find. </comment> <issue> Clicking CTRL++, as per Windows conve...
