Re: The Categories Panel hiding
No. It is intentionally fixed to avoid new users accidentally losing it. The trees can be collapsed, and the panel can be made narrow.

Re: Font View
The Predefined view are grouped in one folder.
You should have another folder for Custom Views.
Which version are you using?
Custom Font Views are only available for the Professional version. Perhaps your trial period expired?

Re: Incorrect Font Display - Emmanuel Katto
Not enough information to go on. Attaching the font project will probably be the quickest way to a solution. If you don’t want to do that, post screenshots of a glyph that does not display correctly, and in which application.

Re: The SAMPLE Panel Shows Glyphs I Cannot Access
I did a quick search, but it is not clear to me how good OpenType support is in Inkscape. I no longer have it installed. Ask on their forums. LibreOffice offers some support via HalfBuzz, and Affinity Publisher offers good support. Probably, that means that Affinity Designer does too. The Affinity ...

Re: Hangs on Processing
I don’t think the number of views means much. Probably mostly bots crawling the site. I looked before, and have not experienced the issue, so I have little to add. The number of fonts in your library could be a factor. When you say that MainType hangs, does it eventually recover? If so, after how l ...

Re: Setting Vertical Spacing between lines of text in a new font
The units are funits, which depend on the funits per em setting for the font.
The default for new fonts is 2048 funits per em.
For my fonts, I generally design them to have 12point default line-spacing for 10 point text.
Typo Ascender (1912) + Typo Descender (546) = 2458
2458/2048 = 1.2001953125

Re: Setting Vertical Spacing between lines of text in a new font
Have you calculated the metrics on the Font Properties, Metrics tab? This will usually adjust the line-spacing to a suitable value. You can increase the line gap if you want to increase the default line-spacing for your font.

Re: Glyph Index Order
One can use cut and paste special to reorder glyphs in the glyph index, or when creating new glyphs, one can add them after the selected glyph to maintain whatever order one wishes.

You need to respect the licence terms of the original fonts that you copied. Not all free fonts are in the public domain. Even those with an open GNU font licence may have conditions placed on their reuse.
