Re: I'm a Total Noob Here

What application are you pasting the glyphs into? If I paste Private Use Area glyphs from MainType to this forum I get the .notdef rectangle glyphs as the browser's font does not support these glyphs:  - maybe that's what you're seeing. If you don't have an application that supports OpenType featu...

Re: I'm a Total Noob Here

You don't actually need to buy MainType to try it out. The free version is limited to non-commercial use, and only supports 2,500 fonts, but otherwise it does many things that the paid-for version does. Copy to clipboard.png If your word-processor or other application does not support the characters...

Re: Insert... Confusion

You did not do anything wrong. Unfortunately, that's how it works. You cannot insert a new character where it belongs. The best workaround is to cut the newly added character, insert a glyph where it belongs, and then Paste Special to paste the new character into the empty glyph, complete with its o...

Additional Transform Scripts

Here are a few transform scripts that I have created recently. Please feel free to reply with some of your own, explaining how you use them. Comments can be added to transform scripts to explain how to customise them. Not in WOFF This script selects a wide range of symbols and other glyphs that I do...

Re: Snap to common angles for measure and cut contours tools

The cut contours tool already does that by holding down Shift. It constrains the cut by increments of 15°

It would be useful to constrain the measure tool to horizontal and vertical at least, but if that's not difficult, then I suppose that 15°increments would be just as easy, and more consistent.

Re: Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 issues

I have used the MSKLC to create my keyboards many years ago. I could very easily lose interest in your problems. Did you try with my keyboard? The dead keys are marked in grey: Dead Keys.png Right-clicking on the dead key shows the output. Circumflex Accents.png I added a couple of definitions to th...

Re: Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 issues

The problems that you see may be hardware related. I have no problem using dead keys on my customised PagePlus Keyboard to type many accented characters. Shift 6 ^ is a dead key for circumflex, âêîôû, Ctrl + Alt + 6 is a dead key for caron: ď ľ ň etc. Try my PagePlus keyboard with your hardware, and...

Re: Why can't you visually kern pairs?

When I do Autokern, it seems to be creating multiple classes for every kerning pair, do you know why this is? Autokern should only be run once. If you need to edit the kerning pair adjustment lookup or the kerning classes, use the OpenType designer. You can clean up unused lookups and features in t...

Re: Odana Update

Version 3.50 further improved the colour glyphs and some other glyphs, replaced contextual ligatures with a stylistic set, harmonised the height of symbols and arrows, added four glyphs with ogonek for Nordic and two glyphs for irony punctuation. Some kerning pairs were also added. The WOFF versions...

Re: Dingbats, other symbols keeping original glyph

Check the settings on Font Properties, Ranges, and make sure that the Unicode ranges are correct. It's not possible to install glyphs that are not in the font. If you're seeing glyphs other than those in the font, then Windows must be making a substitution because it thinks that the character set is...

Re: Shadow Effects in FontCreator

It looks like it ought to be easy to automate, but it's quite laborious to do manually. It's not something that I need personally, but I am sure it would be a useful enhancement.

Here is one that I made by manually moving some nodes after applying a thin outline.

Re: Why can't you visually kern pairs?

Ok I see now that these must be different 'classes.' Where are all of these different classes coming from and how do I know which is being used when my font is in use? The kerning classes are generated by Autokern automatically. For large fonts, there may be far too many for comfort. You can see wh...
