From the View menu, Load Layout, Restore the Factory Layout.

You can find a video tutorial on my MainType Review page.

Re: Font/Properties/Extended - Does not save field info!

Typographic Family & Typographic Subfamily (Windows only) In Windows, the Family name is displayed in the font menu; the Subfamily name is presented as the Style name. For historical reasons, font families have contained a maximum of four styles, but font designers may group more than four font...

Re: Help with ligatures, etc.

In the Tools menu, apart from AutoMetrics I see a thing that says "Metric Options," but that's more like a "View" sort of menu, i.e. re what's visible as you work on glyphs. That's the one. The CapsHeight is calculated from the Capital H. You can guess which glyph is used to cal...

Re: Help with ligatures, etc.

I've been confused about setting the bearings, and the metrics, and kerning. Not to be confused with the Matrix . There are also the font metrics (Tools menu, show metrics lines), which are calculated and not set. It is the size and design of the glyphs that determines the position of x-heigh...

Re: Help with ligatures, etc.

If I understand what you're saying, though, if I add each of those ligs in as "classes" rather than as "characters" -- even if each of those classes only contains one character, then autokern will then create adjustment pairs for each of them (in combination with all other glyph...

Finding Glyphs in Large Fonts

Display the Preview Toolbar (F8) and enable various OpenType features to test them.

To locate any glyph displayed in the preview toolbar, simply click on it. The glyph will be located in the glyph overview.

Re: Garava Update

Garava Version 3.91 replaced the Contextual Alternates (enabled by default) with a Stylistic Set ( ss01 ), which is not enabled by default. Using the attached text file I added some more kerning pairs for lowercase, and improved kerning overall. The WOFF versions are unhinted, but the *.otf Web vers...

Re: Help with ligatures, etc.

So I guess the answer to my question, with regard to getting autokerning to include the glyphs in the PUA, it's just not possible to get FontCreator to include those? If you include glyphs from the PUA in your kerning classes and/or kerning pairs, then Autokern will use them. Can you explain what e...

Re: Help with ligatures, etc.

My black letter font has zero pairs with lowercase i, including none with Uppercase. The left side-bearing could perhaps do with a little bit more space, but black letter fonts were often tightly spaced to save on expensive vellum.

Re: Help with ligatures, etc.

Not all possible permutations need to be kerned. I have been using the attached file to see which pairs need it (especially the alphabet sets, and brackets). With lowercase w, for example, only "wd" needs kerning, and pairs "mw" and "pw" are also kerned. wawbwcwdwewfwgw...

I add some standard ligatures for ky, tt, tty, tr, ttr, fr, ffr, etc., but not for uppercase-lowercase, Qu and Th are discretionary ligatures.

Re: where does a font go if you use main type to uninstall it

It does not go anywhere. It is just uninstalled and removed from the list of installed fonts. Like a thread that was posted in the wrong forum does not get deleted, it just gets a different reference when the moderator moves it. MainType adds every font to its database and it will remain there so th...

Autokerning Large Fonts It can take a few minutes to autokern a large font. Here's a way to speed up the process. ⋅ Add a new pair adjustment lookup ⋅ Add just a few kerning pairs to the lookup ⋅ Run Autokern with different glyph spacing values until you are happy with...

Re: Exclude lowercase-lowercase pairs from Autokern

I can see why one would exclude upper-upper, but why lower-lower? I see no reason at all to exclude Upper-Upper. Pairs like AV, AT, TA, LT are those needing the greatest values. However, there might be a case for not including positive kerning pairs for Upper-Upper like AA OO etc. Most lower-lower ...
