Re: OpenType Features: Order of Precedence

It does just do fractions...but the feature is dumb, not smart. Which is why we are all going through this fun exercise to fool the end applications to do our bidding without user intervention. We all can be smarter than what most/many applications are capable of using. When we find an application t...

Re: OpenType Features: Order of Precedence

Never seen a real world use of large fractions with a separator before. Are separators used in the UK or the Continent with large fractions?

Re: OpenType Features: Order of Precedence

... I am sure that the superscripted x in 2x would not be expected. In normal mathematical notation, 2x means "2 times x" but 2 followed by a superscript x means "2 to the power x" (i.e. 2 multiplied by itself x times). In setting math equations without the benefit of MathType o...

Re: Chaining Context: Ligatures following numerals

@Erwin,

I think anytime one can post an answer on a place like TD is a good thing. I thought the thread about FC in professional use was OK up until Adam gave his thoughts about the OT Designer in FC--then it was a great thread!

Re: Chaining Context: Ligatures following numerals

Though I would upload the script in total. Took out the kerning though it wasn't very large. Mike I have looked at the code and it is good, but if you don't mind I think I will stick with my simple solution, at least I understand what is going on and there is absolutely no interaction with the frac...

Re: Chaining Context: Ligatures following numerals

The ordn feature uses 5 "rules" in the chaining context... lookup ChainingContext15 { context (@Numerals) @ords; sub 0 MultipleSubstitution2; context (@ords2) @Numerals; sub 0 MultipleSubstitution3; context (@ords) @Numerals; sub 0 MultipleSubstitution3; context (@CG_2) @Numerals; sub 0 Mu...

Re: OpenType Features: Order of Precedence

I'm sure we can get both to work for the basics, but what about more complex formulas, or even just something like: 1st = 2x + 1/3y - (34/456)z and 2nd = 0 capture-001132.png But then, I don't know how you would have wanted it formatted...which is why for the (very) few journals I have done have at...

Re: Chaining Context: Ligatures following numerals

When it comes right down to it, ordn shouldn't be turned on globally. It should be turned on for the run of text to which it applies. What do you mean by "the run of text to which it applies"? Is it not the case that ordinals are required to be used consistently through a story if they ar...

Re: Chaining Context: Ligatures following numerals

When it comes right down to it, ordn shouldn't be turned on globally. It should be turned on for the run of text to which it applies. This is easy enough to trap and apply using GREP in applications that support it like ID and conditional styles like in QXP. Same applies to both using XML & tagg...

There are applications that still do not use gpos but do use the kern table.

Re: FC11 64-bit: Minor bugs/problems after upgrading

I'm using a 1600 x 900 laptop much of the time. It uses the 24 x 24 icons. My Windows scaling is 100% (I think) but don't have an opportunity to start it up at the moment to check.
