Re: XUID field.

From: Thomas Phinney of Adobe Subject: [OpenType] Why you don't need UniqueIDs Date: Fri, 04 Mar 2005 10:04:41 -0800 Neither Type 1 nor OpenType CFF fonts require PostScript UniqueIDs. Back in the mid-80s, when printing might be done on a 57K serial connection and printers might have 8 MHz processor...

Re: Font/Properties/Extended - Does not save field info!

Thanks for the advice, Erwin.

This has driven me nuts more than once as to the behavior. Glad to know it wasn't me losing what little of my mind I have left!

Re: Font/Properties/Extended - Does not save field info!

There are good reasons to enter information on that tab. I too have periods where the information is not saved. Usually a reboot of the computer enables the info to be saved. But not always. Sometimes after a reboot when it doesn't work, exiting and restarting FC makes it work again. This was never ...

Re: Adding Ligatures in place of Kerning.

I like thought. I express it all the time ;-) I do not believe it is our job in general to make up for any application's lack of abilities. Isn't the point to try to make a font which works as well as possible for the maximum number of people ? ... and if that means using Contextual ligatures inapp...

Re: Adding Ligatures in place of Kerning.

I like thought. I express it all the time ;-) I do not believe it is our job in general to make up for any application's lack of abilities. I do make exceptions for certain OT features. For instance, InDesign cannot turn on hlig without scripting. So I do the same lookups for hlig in a stylistic set...

Re: How can I get rid of ligatures in a font?

No idea. When I use FF, I only use it for getting drawn glyphs into it for other people that hire me. I hate the thing.

A quick Google search turned this up:

https://fontforge.github.io/lookups.html

Somewhere on that site will be your answer.

Re: How can I get rid of ligatures in a font?

Is there a way to turn off ligatures in whatever application you are using? The substitution is because the ligature feature in the font is being activated by whatever application. If you cannot control the application's ligature function then you will either need to edit the font as long as you hav...

Re: Urgently Looking For Script Font.. Help Please

Interesting.

Bistro Script (MyFonts) comes the closest I can find. The lowercase r has an alternate that fits. Chicken types out perfectly from what I can see. The uppercase F has no counterpart in Bistro Script.

That's as close as I could get. Sorry.

Yes I think ctrl + delete for make empty makes sense semantically.

Re: Backspace Makes Glyph Empty

Hah, thanks, BP.

I had this happen once and couldn't soon after replicate it so I assumed it was just a glitch.

I rather like there is a "shortcut" for Make Empty—just not this one.

Re: Anyone seen this?

$500 would only be a good start for me to take your glyphs and write the OT Feature code. And please note that OT code cannot create true randomness. It approximates randomness with what some people call "cleverness." That's the feature code simply approximating randomness. And it does wor...

Re: Anyone seen this?

Yes, it can be made, though I also doubt it is a font but hey, might be. I know of only a few fonts that pseudo-randomize characters and none look like handwriting. I can do it...what is your budget? If you want to do it in FC Pro, I believe I have some links to OT feature code you can review to see...

Modifying glyph names

I make use of being able to copy glyph names for manipulation every single day, multiple times per day. I have some macros and spreadsheets where most of my OT Feature stuff is written, then copied into the text editor to swap out tabs for spaces, ready to be pasted into the feature. Works great and...
