The "trick" is to make a contour, then delete points until only two making a single line is left.

In a glyph window, select View / Toolbars / Comparison. Adjust the side bearings to get what you want.

Very Nice! I like to use "From Any To Zanily" In the Test Font window to see how the caps look in words. Yellow ellipses appear to have too much space. Calitalic-1.jpg While in a glyph window, Use View / Toolbars / Comparison To make adjustments by moving the right bearing. Calitalic-2.JPG...

Different programs will interpret the glyphs differently as they use different rules.
