Re: Right hand side bearing changes

For me, the base glyph's arrows are at the bottom, and the base glyph does not move.

Anyway, the composite glyph's metrics are unchanged because they use the metrics of the base glyph.

Re: Right hand side bearing changes

In each composite glyph properties, select "Use this glyph's metrics" for the base glyph. Then the diacritic can be moved without affecting the composite glyph's metrics. However, any changes to the base glyph will.

Re: Cubic to quadratic conversion when importing vectors

Have you read this thread yet?.

It seems to me that there is no solution to this problem other than learning to use the tools in FontCreator for manipulating curves.

Surely the way to go is to improve the vector tools, e.g. to have some automatic curve smoothing to remove excess points?

Re: MainType 4.5 is here!

Excellent! The update was completely painless. Launched MainType Update auto-detected Downloaded update MainType restarted and applied update Font Libraries were updated My MainType Review was also updated painlessly. Any comments on my review are welcome in the relevant thread (not here please).

Re: Embedding Fonts in Website

Yes. You can use @fontface code and upload the font to your site, or use one of the existing online font resources like Google fonts or Font Squirrel . I created a simple Demo Page using my own fonts here, but I am not an expert in web design. Watch the video provided by font squirrel or ask on thei...

Re: Shortcuts for buttons in Drawing toolbox

Shortcuts are a great time-saver when you're using a program daily — not so useful when you have used it for a long time and cannot remember what they are. Spacebar to select the last-used tool would help a bit. The ideal solution would be fully customisable shortcuts, but I suspect that may be too ...

Use the italic transformation — then the angle is shown in degrees.

Re: Units used in bold, thin and hollow transformations

Unless otherwise shown on the transform dialogue, then the units are always funits. If you use the Effects, Italic transformation, or the rotate transformation, then the dialogue shows that the units are in degrees and decimals of a degree. Transform Angle.png If you use the scale transformation, th...

Re: Bolden and thinning should use percentages as parameters

Agreed. This would be a significant improvement, especially when applying bold or thin transforms to glyphs with a high contrast. This illustration shows what should happen if both horizontal and vertical strokes were set to be 50% bolder. Or one might want to make horizontal strokes bolder by only ...

4280 glyphs. There are extensive alternates.?? what do you mean?? the curls on the G and Y I have to do them myself?? Some OpenType fonts have Contextual Alternates . In applications like InDesign, Word 2010, or PagePlus X5 that support OpenType features these alternate glyphs can be selected from ...

Re: Creating dingbat below base line

If glyphs are being truncated its usually because they lie outside WinAscent or WinDescent.

Use the calculate (maximum) option on the Format, Settings, Metric dialogue to make sure that the whole of every glyph is within the recommended limits.

Calculate Metrics

Re: Creating dingbat below base line

With symbols like this it hardly matters which glyphs they are mapped to. The point of using A-Z for glyphs on the baseline is to get the glyphs to show up in font selection dialogues. If you create a Unicode font instead of a Symbol font, you can use thousands of code-points, but how easy it is for...

Re: Creating dingbat below base line

Try adding a set of uppercase glyphs A-Z with normal baselines, and use the lowercase glyphs for your banners. The uppercase glyphs could be banners too, but perhaps containing letters A-Z.

Re: Problems with font modified by FC on Android System

The best solution is to rebuild the OpenType tables after making all desired modifications to the font. I provide the OpenType Compiler script with my free fonts so that others can do this quite easily, after studying the Tutorial Thread Recompiling TTF > OTF with the existing script after deleting ...

How Do You Advertise a New Font?

If you're good at design, I would suggest creating your own web page to display your fonts, as Pia Frauss has done, or as I have done My Fonts If you're more concerned with generating income then I suppose the best approach would be to submit your font to one of the many well-known font sites. I don...
