font turns into boxes

When using TT Renaissance in Corel Draw x5, each letter typed appears as a square U shaped box. I bought MT to organize fonts and to get rid of the MS foreign language font clutter. That lot has been uninstalled or shelved and the remaining fonts seem to work normally.
I have downloaded Renaissance again but it still shows up as boxes. Is there a cure for this?

Does it work if you copy a character from within MainType (inside the character pane) and then paste it into Corel Draw?

I think the font was corrupted to start with. I found a newer version which didn't have the boxes in the character list and works normally.
