maintype database backup and Active fonts

Post by thibaud »

I recently did a clean windows install, before that I did a maintype db backup.
My problem is:
I had a large amount of fonts installed i my previous windows install.(yes I was lazy and that was the way I "bookmarked" fonts from my main library)
I was hoping to somehow get hold of that selection of installed fonts after restoring the maintype backup.
Unfortunately that wasn't very clever of me. I wish now I had taken the time to tag the fonts before installing them.

I'm welcoming suggestion to get that installed font list back. (windows backup doesn't allow me to restore any folder inside the windows folder)
isn't the active font list in the backup somehow ?

I'm sorry but I don't think it is possible. MainType always respects the actual active fonts, so after a clean install of Windows you will no longer be able to restore your previous installed font list, unless as you already mentioned you tagged your fonts prior to your FmsConfig backup.

Thanks for the answer.
I managed to extract the font folder from the windows backup.
Lesson learned. entering grouping tagging mode :)
