Template with Visible Baseline

Post by Erwin Denissen »

Two beta testers suggested to draw the baseline in a light color. This way the baseline is visible to us. Since Scanahand filters out light colors, the line won't end up in the font.

I'm not sure if this will always work, and if people prefer such light colored (in this case yellow) line. What do you think?

I agree that a ruled coloured line for the baseline would be a great help. Even with some practice it is hard to write consistently on an imaginary baseline.

Cyan or light blue may work better as that is used by ruled paper.
Yellow or Green is fine by me, but not red. Green will be hard to see in poor light for many colourblind users. From the Colorblind Home Page
Protanomaly (one out of 100 males):
Protanomaly is referred to as "red-weakness"

Deuteranomaly (five out of 100 males):
The deuteranomalous person is considered "green weak".

Protanopia (one out of 100 males):
For the protanope, the brightness of red, orange, and yellow is much reduced compared to normal.
That's why I think cyan or light blue will cause the fewest problems. As long as Scanahand can filter it out. Would it be better to use 256 colour PNG rather than greyscale JPG?

Green and Yellow are actually the only colors that Scanahand can filter out with ease. All other colors, especially Blue are hard to get rid off.

I've done some more testing...

Scanahand is no longer able to detect and remove the baseline, when the template is printed in grayscale. This means the color should definitely be optional.

Baseline

Post by Dave Crosby »

Thanks for the baseline!

It may seem a small thing to some, but to me on a scale of 1-10 it is a TEN!

Thanks!

I've even further improved the guide line enhancement. You'll see it in the public beta release later this week.
