Edit with FontCreator

Postby carterhouse » Tue Feb 03, 2009 3:15 am

I've installed Scanahand 2.0 Premium Edition and created/saved a font. I want to edit with FontCreator, but when I click the "Edit with FontCreator" button in step 3, it doesn't link to my previously installed and fully functioning FontCreator v5.6 Professional Edition. Instead, I get an error message: "FontCreator is an advanced font editor that allows you to further improve your fonts. Do you want to download FontCreator right now?"

I cannot find an options menu on either Scanahand or FontCreator to manually link them. I've not found a discussion of this problem on the board. Can you help? Thanks.

It works for me.

When you right-click on a Truetype font in Windows Explorer, do you see a menu item for "Open with FontCreator"?

Try running a repair of FontCreator from Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.

I suspect it's a bug, but I need to look into it. For now please try the workaround as suggested by Bhikkhu Pesala.

Thanks for response. I can right click in explorer and see the menu option to open with FontCreator. I choose that option and FontCreator opens with the font, no problem. I went to control panel -> remove/change programs and clicked on FontCreator, but did not have the option to repair. I clicked on a few other programs and did see the repair option, but it always went away when I highlighted FontCreator.

I have 64-bit Vista on HP Pavillion, quad core. I have found most programs - including FontCreator and Scanahand work without issue on this machine. Scanahand is doing everything properly except for the FontCreator launch button. The work around for me now is simply to open FontCreator independly of Scanahand and navigate to my saved .ttf file where I can open and tinker with my font. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to a fix, but its no biggie for now.
