Projects and font file names

Post by Palendrome »

Hello,
We have Font properties that contain a changeable Font Family name. This auto generates a fullFonttName. We have font export settings that has the path and name of the font we are using - but you can simply remove that or change it... We have export font that just does it based I guess on the font properties settings. We have Export font as... that allows you to change the name of the font.

Now all these inter-related ways to name things makes it difficult to develop an understandable work flow. For example - if we open a second font in the project window and select its panel - the properties now reflect this other font within the original project, So it seems the font you are creating is not inextricably linked to the project ...So if you had a project called Box.ttf with a font you are making called Box and you open another font called banana and selected its window - when you export you are going to export banana.ttf... Thats confusing a bit. Then if you go to export as... you can call it peach.ttf but then mac will say thats not the internal name of this font dummy...and no doubt install it as the internal name....

So there's that and a wondering about what the Project is actually encapsulating....please could someone explain a workflow to me relating to this?

Many thanks
Paul

Each font project contains its own settings.

The project file name is just a name you find easy to remember. The font file name is located in the project settings. The most important name is the font name which is available on the Font Properties dialog.
