If I am not mistaken, you should be eligible for a free upgrade to FontCreator 6.5.

Check for updates from the Help Menu as the download link is for the latest version of FontCreator.
What problem do you have using Insert Characters? It is limited to 1000 characters at a time, but I think you should be able to use that.
