Activation of Email Address

Post by albeter »

When changing an email address associated with a username, the forum system automatically deactivates the username and sends an email message to the new address with a new activation code url link. If this new activation link is not accessed, the username stays inactive and the user cannot log in.

The problem with this method of activating the username is that if the user does not receive the activation email message, they are locked out and cannot log in.

A suggestion to improve this system would be that an email message be sent to both the new and old email addresses. The message sent to the old address could include a hot link to reverse the prior address change. This should prevent the situation I recent fell into when I discovered my ISP was not delivering emails generated by the Forum system.
