Installing font properly

Post by Sanatan »

Hello! I created font based on Indus Script, works like a Brahmi. It have huge Brahmi influences, like using many common Brahmi and Indus Script symbols. So I am using it in Brahmi Range. But I need a help, even after I install it computer don't automatically use it when it encounter Brahmi range. In Microsoft Word, Photoshop, etc. when I set the font as Saraswati (my font) then I can use it, but like in google chrome, other applications, etc. the characters don't automatically uses my font when it encounter Brahmi range but shows boxes :S

How to set my font (Saraswati) as default font to render characters from Brahmi script range(11000-1107F)? I use Windows 7 and 8 mostly...

Thanks in advance!

I am unable to advise on Win 7/8 issues, but have you calculated the Ranges for your font? Format, Settings, Ranges, Calculate Ranges and Codepages. This fixes a number of problems.

Rage is 11000-1107F (69632 - 69759). This is what I am targeting- http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U11000.pdf

I am new to font creating itself, so I don't understand the Codepage thing and wouldn't be able to tell settings properly. So I am attaching my font file so that you can see. I haven't typefaced whole Brahmi Range, but all important stuff to write Sanskrit and Hindi. Later I may add more characters to it as per need. But currently, this is it. So I want to set this font default whenever Brahmi range is encountered.

It looks like you want to change global font settings in Windows, so I suggest you read this topic from Microsoft:

Sorry for ultra late reply :S

Actually, when I installed the font it starts to work automatically in Linux (Ubuntu 12.10). As soon as kharoshti block is seen my fonts are displayed. But in windows I still see boxes. why?
