Maybe you should consider using this as standard ligature

sub iacute j acutecomb -> iacute_j;

The text below would be shown as the correct ligature:

íj́

Then move this ligature

sub f i j -> f_i_j;

to either a specific Dutch language feature, or move it to the Discretionary Ligatures.

However, that is much harder to type than íj.

Serif apps do not support locl features, so I cannot use that method.

True.

Besides it is rarely used, so it is more hypothetical.

Next time I notice it, I'll let you know.

I have now moved fij -> fij to discretionary ligatures.

If only liga is enabled, fij will use the fi ligature; if dlig is also enabled it will not.

Version 2.22 is now available for download.

Version 2.30 changed Contextual Ligatures for Velthuis encoding to a Stylistic Set, and changed a Stylistic Set to Character Variants. A Slashed Zero, two more glyphs for Irony Punctuation, super/subscripts for simple equations in fractions, e.g. (4+5)/9÷3), and Pagoda and Stupa Transport and Map Symbols were added. Kerning was made slightly less tight, and more kerning pairs were added.

Version 2.20 changed these to Discretionary Ligatures as they cause some problems for Spanish.

Great to know that :) . Now, we are experiencing the same problems for Spanish with the Pali and Acariya font faces

Make sure that you have the latest versions of Acariya and Pali. They both now use Discretionary Ligatures for íj.

I have them (I made my assignments this week :) ). The problem is not with the íj but the fij :|

Sukhumala, Pali, and Acariya are all the same. They use a ligature for fi, but not for fij.

June 2020 ver 2.40

This is still work in progress, but I attach it here in the hope of some feedback. I am sure there are some bugs that I still need to fix before it is ready for publication. I have made many changes since the last release in September 2018. Here is a short list of the most significant changes.
  1. Used anchor-based composites and auto-attach wherever possible
  2. Added Pictographs for globemeridians, lightbulb, and clockfaces 1-12
  3. Added colour glyphs for globes
  4. Added colour glyphs for Transport and Map Symbols, rocket
  5. Added sample text to Font Properties
  6. Edited contours for Æ glyphs (among others)
  7. Adjusted kerning using glyph spacing factor of 27
  8. Renamed superior and inferior glyphs with *.sups *.subs extensions
  9. Added mappings to pcap, smcp, sups, and subs to work around a bug in Serif PagePlus.
  10. Add narrow combining accents for i, l, j, etc., and low profile accents for uppercase, small, and petite capitals.
  11. Included afrc, smcp, and clock faces in web fonts
  12. Added 14 supplemental arrows
  13. Improved Latin Extended-D AY and VY
  14. Added Roman Numerals to Historical Ligatures
  15. Generated autometrics for superscripts to improve spacing. Subscripts are composites of superscripts.
  16. Regenerated kerning pairs with Autokern: Some pairs will now be wrong, but they will be fixed later when all kerning pairs have been added. Typically, C- L” -T etc., are too tight.
  17. Fixed some more kerning pairs and reordered class @OldStyleFigures with 8 first to fix some more.
Latest Fixes
  1. Switched descriptions of Stylistic Sets SS01 and SS02
  2. Fixed validation errors with intersecting contours and suspicious points.
  3. Removed rarely used Roman Numerals from Web Font versions (not in the attachment)
  4. Fixed a couple of Latin Extended-D glyphs: AY and VY to extend them to WinDescent.
  5. Moved some accents down below WinAscent
  6. Recalculated Font Metrics
  7. Generated autometrics for superscripts
  8. Added AY_hlig class and kerning pairs
  9. Sorted classes
  10. Used classes for super/subscripts etc.
  11. Used composites for Greek glyphs (reduces file size)
  12. Checked hinting and trimmed kerning pairs smaller than 20 funits.

This looks good. I will take a closer look tomorrow, but I will only focus on the technical part of font design.

I think you mixed the descriptive names of the stylistic sets.

I have published version 2.42 of Sukhumala, although it is still some way from being finished. If I don't do any more, at least people will have a usable font now. I am already using it for my latest publications.
