Creating a Font From an Image

Post by hogans »

Hi all,

I am trying to take the attached .png image from photoshop and convert the numbers to a TTF installable font.

Any ideas or guidance will be appreciated...

Assuming that you want to create a regular font, and not a white font on a solid black background.
  1. Open the image in PhotoShop (or IrfanView)
  2. Invert the image to black on white
  3. Select one number and copy it to the clipboard
  4. Start a new font
  5. Open the appropriate number in the glyph edit window
  6. Delete any contours that are there already
  7. Paste the bitmap from the clipboard
  8. Adjust for position on the baseline and adjust the side-bearings. (Don't resize it)
  9. Repeat
  10. Resize all glyphs using the Transform Wizard (Pro version) or the Transform Toolbar (Home version)
Read the topics Scanning an Entire Alphabet and Importing Images the Right Way.
