display font naming convention rules / guidelines?

First: are there such things for naming display fonts? Most that I've seen assign some unique name to the font, with a descriptive word thereafter if appropriate (e.g., bold, italic, ultra, condensed). I'm not sure what to do if I've settled on a name for a display font, and want to amplify it to reflect one or more of its characteristics. (I thought about using the "grotesque" appendix, but that seems to have a specific, non-intuitive meaning when applied to fonts.)
