What remains? In my case, a cell is needed for the stand-off long S ... I have not seen the term "stand-off long S" before. Wide long-S. The small long-S H would use a stand-off long-S. A small long-S E would not. That's all. In other words, one uses a different long-S, depending, instead...

Your post has lots of other interesting items as well. I am hoping to reply more fully. It was previously suggested that the unassigned areas at the beginning of FB could also house ligatures. I suggested using a wide long S instead of separate ligatures, for combinations of long S followed by lett...

At first, as I read through your post, I thought that you had used the MUFI recommendations in your font. No, but it might make for a good standard. They do include a lot that I've never seen in old documents. But I'm sure they are found, maybe from German printers. Since we have the seven at the s...

GUIDE FIGURES The acuity of the eye, ability to separate dots, is 1 minute of arc. It's not even that complicated when it comes to the appearance of hinted fonts with font smoothing enable and those which are not with font smoothing off. But as hinting seems to be presented as a sort of 'black art'...

With a font like Mrs Eaves you definitely need Open Type features to use it. Although one might manage OK with Œ, it would be a pain inserting other ligatures from the Private Use area. As I said a year ago, that seemed the promise of Open Type, which was supposed to be supported in Vista, particul...

Hello William. There would be little need otherwise to have a specialized character(s) you would have to design, cast and inventory, you would think. Dick Thank you for posting. Indeed, I would agree, if the conventional model of the matrix being reusable is used. William You still see a lot of the...

Right now there are only a few applications that support OpenType features, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and (although it doesn't support all features) Adobe PhotoShop. These links might help: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otfntdev/intro.htm http://www.myfonts.com/info/opentype-support-i...

As far as I know installing either Internet Explorer 5 or higher or Office 2000 or higher should also install the Unicode Script Processor (USP10.dll). This processor is also know as Uniscribe and should enable OpenType support. Unicode is supported in Win98, though there might be certain codes/cel...

Re: What feature do you want to see in the next release?

Here is your chance to tell us what feature(s) should be included in future versions. This poll is no guarantee a feature will actually be implemented, but the feature with the most votes will most likely be added. I'll add new 'vote items' to the poll as soon as I see them in replies to this post....

Thanks for sending the font file. I've been able to locate the problem. It will be fixed in the next upcoming release. There is no release date decided yet, but you can expect it within a couple of weeks. Only minor bug fixes will be solved in that release. I like the idea of expanding fonts even f...

Re: Hinting of both 'flavours'

I do not know how this applies to TFT flat-screen displays but I am quite happy with a high-resolution CRT display and font smoothing. I do realise that some people wish to have hinting for display purposes . . . Joe. As I now understand it, this hinting was supposed to be one of the important feat...

I voted for manual hinting, but that's just because I don't thing automatic hinting is able to do the job properly. In fact, it would be great to have ANY type of hinting in FC - as far as I can see (and I'm no expert) it's the only feature really missing here. I may still not understand the techno...

Copy composite

Using cut and paste, if a cell contains a composite, instead of pasting as a simple contour, it might be useful to allow pasting as the same composite.

A composite resides in the same table as other glyphs, but only take a few bytes as it links to another glyph. a) Is there a problem using composites to build further composites? There seems to be no problem with Word, or whatever. I've installed fonts with this. But I see in another thread that Fo...
