To paste the glyphs into the private use area is no different. Just insert the character range you wish to use as describe above, and paste the glyph data into those new glyphs. By default, the mappings are not copied, just the glyph outlines and metrics. But Bhikku, how would you then get the corr...

I was thinking about this exact problem yesterday. I'm making a font which uses the private area of Unicode, but I decided to add basic Latin characters for completeness. Using Paste Special and selecting "preserve mappings", it's easy to paste many characters in at once, but only if you w...

Just for the record, Unicode indicates here: http://www.unicode.org/faq/indic.html ...in the next-to-last question, that the character names cannot be changed. So I suppose if you're using already-assigned characters to make a font, you'll have to either make do with incorrect names, or use the Priv...

FWIW, I don't think the classic Mac font configuration contains z-with-hacek either. Does your version of Excel support Unicode?

And now an inexcusably dumb question...

I just downloaded the software.

I've been editing glyphs, and accidentally closed an extremely handy window that would let me resize and reshape all kinds of things; called "Transform", I think.

How do I get it back!? :?

OK; not sure if I wantt to do that since I need the names for all the other fonts.

I'd been hoping that the names could be assigned independently of the font.

Thanks again for the advice, Bhikku!

Renaming the Unicode names for glyphs

Thought of another question: is it possible to rename, just for one font, the names that Unicode assigns to glyphs? For example, let's say I'm designing a baseball scoring font and want to change "CIRCLED HIRAGANA KE" to "SINGLE WITH STOLEN BASE" or some such. Or, better yet, ass...

I was reading the tutorial myself; it's great! I printed out the template too. When I first attempted to make a handwriting font using Softy, I wrote all the characters I needed on graph paper, which works fine, but doesn't have the guidelines for x-height and descenders that this template has. Very...

Bhikku, that's just what I was thinking! (Well, I would have had the first three bases having zero width, and then the "home" base with a fill width, but it's just about the same.) A symbol font only gives you 224 characters, correct? One of the reasons I want to make this font again from ...

Here's an example of having four glyphs on top of one another to create a full glyph:

Has anyone tried using Font Creator through Virtual PC? With that, while Font Creator wouldn't be Mac-native, you could at least run it.

Woudl the speed decrease sugnificantly?

Bhikku, that's a nice font; one of the other students in my lab who's studying Vietnamese always laments the lack of a good font. One little quibble: the circled numerals (9312-9331) seem to be a bit too low in the circle, especially the two-digit ones. Is this an optical illusion or are they really...

Bhikku, thanks for the timely advice! I actually aven't downloaded the software yet, and want to know if it can do what I need before I start the clock running on the trial version :) .

I'll try to make a JPG showing what I'm planning to do.

Thanks again!

New to Font Creator; some questions

Hi everybody, first post. I'm trying to make a font that will type baseball scoring and am looking to make a spiffy modern TrueType font to replace the bitmap font that I made on the Mac a few years ago using ResEdit and Font Master '88. I have a few questions, and non-flame answers are much appreci...
