You are no longer a novice, but in case you missed this tutorial:
Enrich Your Fonts with OpenType Features

It shows a mirroring character in Contextual Alternates.

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

And so I did mine like this... backtrack: @t (class, not just single character) input: @LATIN lookahead: @t substitution tables: sub i -> i.alt This is not what you did, as you ended with two rules: Rule1: backtrack: @t (class, not just single character) input: @LATIN lookahead: @t substitution tab...

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

If you want to substitute an "i" with an "i.alt" if it precedes by a "t" and is followed by any other letter, then use this:

backtrack: t
input: i
lookahead: @letters
substitution tables: sub i -> i.alt

Remember the substitution only applies to the input.

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

Okay! Never mind my last reply -- I got it! And once I got it, I couldn't believe how dumb I've been, how much head-scratching and hair-pulling I went through, when the solution seems so simple to me now. With that said, though, I noticed in that other thread that the guy had a "ChainingCon...

Re: Check this font

Most characters are in the private use area, so you manually have to combine the correct forms. This definitely predates OpenType layout technology.

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

I can't find any info anywhere for how to do this stuff -- I can't even find a definition of "Backtrack." Searching the forums yields no results (apart from this thread, here) and there's nothing in the FC help about it, either. Where does one go to learn how to do this stuff? I'm not saying that t...

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

You added two contextual lookups, while you need only one. Do take a look at the two screenshots in my previous post, and let us know your results.

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

Here is how to add another rule to the lookup: AddRule.png AddRule2.png Also, just to pester you some more (sorry), can you confirm whether it screws things up if I change the name of a glyph after I've already done all the kerning, lookups, etc.? Like, if I change the name of my ligs (in my PUA) fr...

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

If your glyph has a Unicode name, then it is mapped to a codepoint. I wonder what character it is. Oh, so you mean it's not so much for my own use, but rather to make it more user-friendly for the end-user? No, the glyph names are mainly for your convenience, but are also used with several features...

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

Okay, I hope you're around, Erwin! I finally got started on this, and a few steps in I'm already stuck. Open your font in FontCreator. Ensure it has characters A, B, C, etc. and also a glyph named A.swash I don't "have" to name it A.swash, do I? I can just leave it with the default unicode name and...

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

Open your font in FontCreator. Ensure it has characters A, B, C, etc. and also a glyph named A.swash Open the OpenType Designer dialog. In the left pane, select Scripts -> Latin (latn) -> Default. If that is not available, click the plus sign in the upper toolbar and add it. Ensure the font contains...

Re: Need help with Handwriting Font

Make a copy of your current project, so you can import these OpenType layout features. Within the OpenType Designer click the Code Editor button at the bottom and copy and paste the code from the previous post. Do ensure your font has glyphs with these names: A, B, C... X, Y, Z, and A.swash Then typ...
