Re: MainType 8 - 64-bit?

We are only days away from the official launch, so there is not much to gain. However we'll send you a link to the latest beta so you can give it a try.

Re: Feature request: Font activation for Quark Xpress 2017

I'm curious if you still think a plugin is needed, or if the font activation features in MainType (e.g. install and load fonts) is sufficient?

Re: Overlapping pair adjustments -- problem or not?

Overlapping characters shouldn't be an issue. It used to be an issue if a character contained overlapping contours, but even that no longer seems to be an issue.

To be sure do test your fonts in several popular word processing applications, web browsers, etc.

Re: Bug recognizing non-assigned code points

Thanks Erwin! This is, of course, a pretty low-priority issue, but one that might cause heartburn here and there for a few folks. We've fixed the issue. The bug fix will be available with the next upcoming release. I believe that those are the only issues of this type, because with those correction...

Yes, this is indeed an issue. We'll try to find a solution which we'll try to include in the next upcoming update.

Re: Creating a single stroke ttf from ai files

On request we send this release to users who have a license for FontCreator professional edition, so do buy that and then we'll send you a link to the special release for single stroke fonts. Please be aware it is still a private build mainly used internally, so it has its quirks. It works but isn't...

Re: Creating a single stroke ttf from ai files

We have a special private release of FontCreator that allows you to design such single stroke fonts. Since the specification only allows closed contours, FontCreator will go over the same path twice so in the end you have a single stroke font, but it actually contains a double outline, so your cutte...

Re: Unwanted System Fonts

MainType initially runs as a free edition which is fully functional, but has fewer features than the standard and premium editions.

You can see the differences in the MainType Comparison Chart.

Re: What is the difference between TrueType and OpenType?

What specific information are you interested in?

If it is a specific internal font table, which one and why?

If you just want to see which OpenType features a specific font contains, then you might better wait for MainType 8.

It should be one file, as all instances are included in a single font resource.

Re: Disable showing un-available charecters

It is Windows that draws the text inside the preview, and we can't control how it displays the text. Windows aims to show text even when characters are missing, so people are still able to read the text. It is not what you want, but it is how Windows works.

Re: MainType 8 - 64-bit?

Yes, MainType 8 will be released later this month and comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. The upgrade prices will probably remain equal to the current upgrade prices, but we might have a short introduction discount. Let us know if you would like to join to beta team, so you can already enjoy t...
