Re: Arabic-How to assign and use alternate glyph?

You will need to insert actual Arabic characters, as those are required with correct functioning OpenType layout features.

So just inserting unmapped glyphs or characters that are mapped to the private use area will certainly fail to work.

Re: Too much space between lines when I test font

Probably one or more glyphs have contours that are positioned way too high or way too low.

Select Information from the Font menu to see the Y Minimum and Y Maximum values. You can double-click such entry to open the specific glyph edit window.

Re: Cannot export or copy to another program

If I upgrade will I be able to do it with the newest version of FontCreator? Yes, as FontCreator now allows you to quickly copy and paste to and from other vector based image editing software like Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape, and Serif Affinity Designer. This feature is supported with the professio...

Re: Allow indexing of images and archives

Thank you, @Erwin Denissen, this is certainly helpful. It would be amazing if I could add a more speaking name instead of e:\ , f:\ , and so on. That sounds like a nice idea, but I'm not sure if more people are intrested in this. Allow me a few more questions: When I unmount the drive, I can instal...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters

If the font is solely (or mainly) for your own use, then you can continue to "abuse" character with glyphs that are not representative for those characters. Microsoft keyboard layout creator might help you access more characters in a friendly manner. Alternatively you can use MainType as it contains...

Re: Allow indexing of images and archives

Do remove the font folder from your MainType Font Folders (Main menu -> Library -> Font Folders). Then add the folder, but now ensure you have checked "Create groups after indexing" and unchecked "Keep in sync". GenerateVirtualGroups.png MainType will now generate virtual groups based on the origina...

Re: Identifying assigned keys to keyboard

Is it for your own use, or are you looking for a global solution? If for your own, then it depends on your keyboard. Since there are many different keyboards, a global solution might only work with a custom keyboard layout, which can be made with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator : Ever wanted to qu...

Re: .init and .end for the same original letter

The forum already has some great resources that should help you out. For example: https://forum.high-logic.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5804#p26497 We might isolate the best parts of these posts and make it a separate "tutorial" so it will become a lot easier to understand and use such OpenType layout fe...

Server Migration

Today we've moved the web site to another server.

It comes with a new web design, and forced https.

We still need to fix some issues, like missing pages, incorrect images, etc.

We hope you like the new design. If you feel we've missed something, do let us know!

Re: How to reposition character before sequence of letters?

Here is some more complex code that should do it, but unfortunately it isn't working within the OpenType Designer preview. It uses (the undocumented  ) class0 which is a special class that contains all glyphs except the ones used within the context. script latn { feature ContextualAlternates; ...

Re: How to reposition character before sequence of letters?

Given that your software supports OpenType layout features, this might work: script latn { feature ContextualAlternates; } feature ContextualAlternates calt { lookup ChainingContextReposition; } lookup ChainingContextReposition { context (A B C) asciicircum E F G bar; sub 0 MultipleSubstitutionCopy;...
