Purging unused Feature and Lookup names

Is there any automatized option (button) for cleaning the project from old feature/lookup names, that are removed from the script tree, but apparently still present in the script or embedded somewhere in the project? I.e. I've recently deleted the "Alternate1" lookup and the wrong feature, where it ...

Re: Stylistic Set Substitutions

I've finally found the source of my problems - it turned out, that it was mostly about "dumping lookups wherever I wanted". At least in the end it gave me a way better understanding of the relation between Features and Lookups  I basically ended up with my font having three Features with si...

Re: Stylistic Set Substitutions

Thank you for the replies. It seems that I'm still doing something wrong, though. I tested my font in Word 2010, and after setting Word to use the contextual alternates, it changes ALL the glyphs with defined substitutions to the substituted versions - with and without context :/. I wonder what can ...

Re: Chaining Context Substitutions

It might be worth mentioning, that Chaining Context Substitutions can be used for not only the Contextual Alternates (calt), but also for Required Contextual Alternates (rclt), when Chaining Context Substitutions are effectively the only "correct" way to go, assumed by the author of the font.

Re: Stylistic Set Substitutions

Thank you for both answers as they pushed me forward, so I'm playing around with the newly acquired knowledge. 1. I only noticed (FC11.5 Pro), that - after setting Chaining Context and checked „calt” in the preview options – neither the Preview window or preview in the Open Type Designer show the al...

Stylistic Set Substitutions

Moved from this discussion topic I'd really like to use this awesome feature, but I guess I'm stuck setting the StylisticSets :(. Is there any comprehensive tutorial about the latter thing? I.e. I had created an unmapped glyph - alternative letter „B”, named „B.ss01”. Then, in the Open Type Designer...

Composite Glyphs with Negative X Scales

I'd like to report that some of my software (including Windows 7 standard font preview window and MS Word 2010) seem to have some issues processing composite glyphs that have the "Use this glyph's metrics" flag checked (possibly in conjunction with negative X scale of the glyph member). It's easy to...

Thank you very much – that is really comprehensive – in fact it gave me a lot of interesting additional information!

Re: Acute cyrillic characters

I'd like to add cyrillic characters to my font - could you tell me which one should I have for a complete set of glyphs for the russian language? Are the acute-accented letters (like а́ е́ и́ о́ у́ ы́ э́ ю́ я́) necessary? I have a problem finding them in the unicode table when I try to use the "Inse...

Mixing Classes-based and Glyph-based kerning in one subtable

Are there any limitations of using Classes-based and Glyph-based kerning pairs in one Subtable? I mean, in the "New Pair Adjustment" window I can choose the "Kind" [ Classes and Glyphs - Classes - Glyphs ]. Is this option available only to help to keep the interface tidy and easier to navigate, or i...

Re: Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

Finally, I tamed the beast (at least in terms of my humble needs - currently for the price of breaking the classes). Erwin and Bhikkhu, thank you very much for all your replies! Anyway, I think there's some space for the software improvements here - like some kind of "smart" pair kerning, that allow...

Actually I've just managed to unset it in 11.5 Pro :P - anyway, great thanks for the clarification!

Re: Side bearings - design standards

Along with the other good advice, note that most fonts still set the left side bearing point at x=0, and then set the left side bearing value at a number that is appropriate. In the example of your letter 'T', this might mean that the LSB and RSB are both set to 200 (for example), but the left side...

Re: Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

(...) It should refer to a single lookup with multiple sub tables, while you have two separate lookups. Now i understand. And is there a possibility to have one lookup with two subtables (one with classic kern table, second with classes and pairs)? So far I managed to broke classes and copy-paste a...

Re: Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

I maintain a lookup table just for testing purposes. I have to admit, that I'm new to Open Type Designer and the idea of having the same items (PairAdjustment and KerningFromKernTable) in three places ("Scripts", "Features" and "Lookups") is still obsure for me. Do you mean I could keep the kerning...
