Composite Glyphs with Negative X Scales

I'd like to report that some of my software (including Windows 7 standard font preview window and MS Word 2010) seem to have some issues processing composite glyphs that have the "Use this glyph's metrics" flag checked (possibly in conjunction with negative X scale of the glyph member). It's easy to...

Re: Cyrillic characters

Thank you very much – that is really comprehensive – in fact it gave me a lot of interesting additional information!

Re: Acute cyrillic characters

I'd like to add cyrillic characters to my font - could you tell me which one should I have for a complete set of glyphs for the russian language? Are the acute-accented letters (like а́ е́ и́ о́ у́ ы́ э́ ю́ я́) necessary? I have a problem finding them in the unicode table when I try to use the "Inse...

Mixing Classes-based and Glyph-based kerning in one subtable

Are there any limitations of using Classes-based and Glyph-based kerning pairs in one Subtable? I mean, in the "New Pair Adjustment" window I can choose the "Kind" [ Classes and Glyphs - Classes - Glyphs ]. Is this option available only to help to keep the interface tidy and easier to navigate, or i...

Re: Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

Finally, I tamed the beast (at least in terms of my humble needs - currently for the price of breaking the classes). Erwin and Bhikkhu, thank you very much for all your replies! Anyway, I think there's some space for the software improvements here - like some kind of "smart" pair kerning, that allow...

Actually I've just managed to unset it in 11.5 Pro :P - anyway, great thanks for the clarification!

Re: Side bearings - design standards

Along with the other good advice, note that most fonts still set the left side bearing point at x=0, and then set the left side bearing value at a number that is appropriate. In the example of your letter 'T', this might mean that the LSB and RSB are both set to 200 (for example), but the left side...

Re: Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

(...) It should refer to a single lookup with multiple sub tables, while you have two separate lookups. Now i understand. And is there a possibility to have one lookup with two subtables (one with classic kern table, second with classes and pairs)? So far I managed to broke classes and copy-paste a...

Re: Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

I maintain a lookup table just for testing purposes. I have to admit, that I'm new to Open Type Designer and the idea of having the same items (PairAdjustment and KerningFromKernTable) in three places ("Scripts", "Features" and "Lookups") is still obsure for me. Do you mean I could keep the kerning...

Re: Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

So generally both options should work fine... And is there no option for binding both kerning tables together (i guess after breaking classes)?

Side bearings - design standards

I've dug an ooold unfinished font and realised, that the left side bearings are generally set to zero, and increased on the right side (see attached image). So far I can imagine, that it can negatively affect generating underline (long on the right) and proper centering around vertical baseline (asy...

Pair adjustment ignored or generating error

I've just discovered the brilliant Class Manager and Pair Adjustment (in FC11.5 Pro), so I added some classes and pairs to a nearly finished font, that already contained relatively big kerning table (see attachd image). The problem is, when I export the font to TTF: • with the "Legacy 'kern' Table" ...

Re: Installed font files invisible in their Windows/Fonts subfolder

I suspect your font has the Greek Unicode character range marked available. Only "Cyrillic and Cyrillic Supplementary" - I guess just like Arial and many other popular fonts, that manage to keep the latin characters as their preview. In the end, it doesn't seem to be a great problem, so I think I'm...

Re: Installed font files invisible in their Windows/Fonts subfolder

(...)The glyphs shown on the icons in the Fonts folder is automatic depending on the glyphs available in the font. (...) Why does it matter? My font primarily contains considerable amount of diacritics for the latin alphabet - I think that showing "exotic" glyphs as a preview, may mislead some user...
