Re: Private Use Characters - as viewed in Microsoft Excel

Perhaps if you open Excel, insert a Private Use Character and see what it looks like in the formula bar.
The formula bar is shown in attached image.

As a guess, it may look like a square/rectangle character.

My question relates to how I can change this default font.

Private Use Characters - as viewed in Microsoft Excel

I have created some Private Use Characters. When viewed on the Microsoft Excel formula bar, it's as shown in the attached image. I don't know whether this relates to FontCreator or the computer itself. The characters are an Asian font, maybe because the computer is from there. Is there a way to chan...

Re: Font metrics - with respect to Row Height in Excel

OK thanks for sending the link, it is informative, unfortunately not specific enough with respect to Excel.
I guess that's all you can do.
Cheers.

Re: Font metrics - with respect to Row Height in Excel

I cannot change the height in Excel as my glyphs use all of the space.
Can you advise the root cause of the issue.
You suggest the baseline is moved ... but so is the top metric, the difference is the same.
Can you please explain in more detail.

Font metrics - with respect to Row Height in Excel

I have a font with the metrics shown below. If I change the upper and lower bound values as follows: 2400 to 2450 & -800 to -750 The row height in Excel increases. I have a large number of rows and need to keep the row height as low as possible. Since the difference between upper and lower is the sa...

I did try CutePDF but there was no improvement.
I printed to xps and this was better but I haven't found any suitable PDF printer.

Re: Character fit within merged cells in Excel

Erwin As stated in the original post, the issue is in the printed PDF. You know that Excel will give variable graphic output. Look, I know that it is a difficult and unique issue, and you may not be able to solve it. If you can't solve upon considering above, please refer me to any literature or ano...

Re: Character fit within merged cells in Excel

To illustrate the issue.
Compare Courier New with PT Mono. Courier New is an established Microsoft font. PT Mono has the same issue as my font.

Attached:
- Excel workbook.
- PDF printouts.
- PT Mono font file.

Re: Character fit within merged cells in Excel

Erwin I presume all your installed fonts are those provided by Microsoft. In which case this is what I'm trying to say in the original post, the issue is not there not there with the established fonts. With my own font, started from a blank template, I am having issues. And I also note the same issu...

Re: Character fit within merged cells in Excel

What font are you using?
If it's your own font, is it based on a template from and established font?

Re: Character fit within merged cells in Excel

No I don't believe it is an issue in Excel.
It is the font as I have tested hundreds of different types of fonts and the issue seems to be with the less established fonts, rather than with, say, fonts shipped with Microsoft products.
