my total ascender and decender is 2657 and 12% of that would be a line gap of 318.
2657 + 5 = 2048 × 1.3 so a line gap of 5 will give you 13pt line-spacing for 10pt text.

Re: Optimum height of the typo ascender

I notice Bhikkhu, you live in seven sisters. That is easy for me to get to, so I am thinking if you do any small group or one to one training classes - I would love to have a day or two on how to use open type tables and the functions behind just the drawing of fonts. I live in Seven Kings, not Sev...

Re: Optimum height of the typo ascender

I calculate line gap to make line-spacing of 10pt text and even multiple: 12, 13, 15 pt etc. This makes calculating the number of lines that will fit on a page easier, and harmonises between different fonts (most of mine use 1.2 or 12pt line-spacing for 10pt text). It is very much a personal choice ...

Re: Add characters (ligatures etc.) to an already existing font

Select the glyphs in the Font Overview and copy them.

Open a new empty glyph and paste the glyphs as composite glyph members in the Glyph Edit Window.

Move them around, then decompose the composite to edit the contours further, join them, etc.

Re: Optimum height of the typo ascender

Thank you I have read the vertical line spacing tips you suggested. I thought I understood the basic concepts of it but when I added up the typo ascender and descenders and with or without the line gap I could not get Arial or times or Calibri to add up to 2048. From the linked article TypoAscender...

Re: Questions about Font Alignment

FontCreator 12 has a new feature to show metric guides for superscripts, subscripts, etc. If the glyphs have a suffix of .sups the superscript metric guides will be shown. Otherwise, just drag a horizontal guideline to any position. Double-click the guideline to adjust its position precisely, or dou...

Re: Ligatures for the Cyrillic font. Please Help!!!

7. Adding the Ligature Feature In the OpenType Designer, add a script for Cyrillic. Add a standard ligature feature for Cyrillic. Add a lookup table to the liga feature to use your newly created ligature glyphs. The screen shot shows Dejavu Sans, which already has 20 scripts and various features. I...

Re: Ligatures for the Cyrillic font. Please Help!!!

There are several steps to this. Create new empty glyphs for the ligatures. Since they are going to be used by OpenType features they do not need to be mapped. That is the recommendation unless your fonts are intended for use in applications that do not support OpenType ligatures. If you do wish to ...

It does not actually change the glyph index of each glyph in the font. Sorting Order.png There are also these options available on the Tools menu. This ...

Re: Problems with changing x-Height and CapHeight values

As I said earlier, one can change the x-Height and Cap Height in the Home Editions, as well as in the Standard Edition. The dialogues are identical. There are a few things that the Professional Versions can do, which the Standard version cannot, but basic features like editing Font Metrics is not on...
