Re: Recommended work flow

100,000 fonts would take a few hours to process I think. Did you wait long enough for it to complete? I would rename the font folders in Windows Explorer before letting MainType generate groups automatically from the folders. Adding one folder at a time would avoid waiting long for the task to finis...

Re: Glyph Names

FontCreator uses the file glyphnames.dat to generate glyph names. Go to Tools, Options, Advanced, and copy the Data files to the User Data Folder. Then open the User Data Folder to edit the copy of glyphnames.dat in notepad or whatever. I think, if you just delete the unwanted names, the glyph names...

How to use the snipping tool to capture screenshots

Cambria Math has similar properties, which is by design and should not be changed or it will result in some glyphs being cropped in most applications.

I'm sure all those experts won't bother again, after that treatment.
I am sure that you're wrong about that.

Re: Format menu

I forget when, exactly, but the Format menu was removed some versions back.

All that you need can now be found in other places. Most of what you're looking for is probably on the Font Properties Dialogue (Shortcut = Alt+Enter).

Re: MainType stopped working

I suspect that you will have to rebuild your groups.

Later versions can create groups automatically from folders. I don't know if that is possible in 5.1. Have a good look when adding font folders to the database.

Re: Finding Kerning Pairs that are Zero

I'd like to automatically find pairs in the opentype designer that have a zero value. Is there a way to find this quickly? Not counting trim. Validating the code in the Code Editor will show zero kern values as warnings. Zero kern values are also displayed in red. in the Pair Adjustment lookup. Dou...

Re: Alt Codes for Special Characters

The ALT codes are not displayed anywhere in MainType. Use an online source such as Alt Codes Net linked to in my earlier post to find out the Alt codes. For example, to type è you need to type Alt138. Where are you trying to insert these characters? You can add them to the Sample Panel using MainTyp...

Sufficient glyph coverage for the target use Open existing fonts that are similar to what you're aiming at to see how they are constructed Get the side-bearing right first before doing any kerning. Scanahand is one option for a beginner who does not want to learn about typography, but just wants to...

Re: Which OpenType layout engine does FC use?

FontCreator has its own layout engine. One can also test features using Test as WOFF, or open the Font Test window, and test in your target applications using the temporary font installed by FontCreator.

Re: Width of glyph

This is what the help file says:

Fixed Pitch

Set to 0 if the font is proportionally spaced, non-zero if the font is not proportionally spaced (i.e. monospaced).

Unless your font is monospaced the value should be set to zero. I don't understand why values greater than 1 would be needed.

Re: Width of glyph

FontCreator 6.5 is the oldest version I have installed, but that has the same glyph properties dialogue. Changing the Advance width only changes the right side-bearing, not the left side-bearing, so the glyph should not move to the left. Make sure that you uninstalled the old version, and restart Wo...

Re: Subscript and Superscript font files

With regard to: Bold preserve bearings, why can't I see this to trial? See the Open folder icon on the right of the dialogue. You first have to load the "Superscript" transform script. Otherwise, if you wish to apply the bold transformation to selected glyphs, you can compose your own script from t...

Re: Subscript and Superscript font files

All recent versions save the font as a project file. You use Export Settings and then Export as TrueType or Web Font to export as *.ttf, *.otf, or *.woff with TrueType or Postscript CFF outlines.
