Re: Italic and oblique and slanted fonts

See Font Properties, Masters, General to see whether the font is Regular, Bold, Italic, or Bold Italic. When a user selects the italic attribute in a word-processor, the italic version of the font is used. Italic fonts usually have a negative italic angle, but they do not have to actually be slanted...

Re: Troubleshooting Move to New Laptop

Am I right in thinking that you have never installed MainType on your new laptop, but are running it from the old hard drive? I didn't think that was possible, but if it is it would explain the missing registry key.

In that case, install MainType on the Laptop and enter the registry key.

Re: Create a Devanagari Glyph

I have no experience of making Devanagari fonts. Take a close look at an existing font to see how the ligatures are drawn and see the OpenType editor to see how glyph substitutions are used to display ligature glyphs that have no code-points.

Re: Create a Devanagari Glyph

Add the Devanagari character set from the Insert Character dialog. Double-click the first in the range, then Shift+Double-click the last to add them all.

Then starting drawing your glyphs in the Glyph Edit Window for each added character that you want.

Re: FC 14 - Font Properties

The help file is very much needed because of the major changes to FontCreator, but unfortunately the sole developer has not had time to complete the work yet. It will be done as soon as possible. Meanwhile, my amateur video on Arranging Panels and Toolbars might help you get started with the new Pan...

Re: How to make all the glyphs look even?

Why are some of your glyphs thinner? Were they copied from another font? If the lighter glyphs were added at the end of the font then sorting the font by glyph index instead of code-point might help you. Otherwise, there is no automatic way to decide which glyphs are too light, and by how much. You ...

Re: How to make all the glyphs look even?

Select the glyphs in the font overview that you wish to make bolder. Open the Glyph Transformer Add the Bold Effect from the left panel to the right panel Set the values that you want. The transformation will add that number of funits to each side of horizontal/vertical strokes. Run the wizard Undo...

Option to Keep Tools Selected

Allow rectangle and ellipse tools to remain selected after drawing, if selecting them with a modifier key like Shift. Currently after drawing one shape, the selection tool is automatically selected, which is often the desired behaviour, but sometimes users may wish to draw multiple shapes, one after...

Re: [FC14] Snap to Grid doesn't work

I think all control keys are occupied, but it can remain active if that is preferred. Control keys? How are modifier keys occupied when selecting tools? Do you mean while drawing? I meant when selecting the tools. Changing the current default behaviour is rarely a good idea unless there is a strong...

That works like a charm.

I was going to suggest that it would be useful for the rectangle and ellipse tools to be “sticky” if selected while holding shift. Then one could draw multiple rectangles or multiple ellipses without reselecting the tool each time.
