Re: Creating a new folder for backup makes FmsConfig crash

Unable to reproduce the crash here using the same version of FmsConfig also on Windows 10.

Re: Contextual Alternates problems.

Duplicate of Discussion on TypeDrawers I am not very fond of cross-posting. There's no rule against it, but if someone takes a lot of time replying to a post only to find that it was already answered elsewhere, it is very annoying. When cross-posting, at least provide a link to any previous discuss...

Re: How do I create a ligature for a certain glyph / code-point?

If your font currently contains no OpenType Features, click the Code Editor Button to create some default features based on the existing glyphs in your font.

Re: How do I create a ligature for a certain glyph / code-point?

I have added a section to the tutorial on Adding OpenType Features about adding standard ligatures. Many fonts will have glyph substitutions to replace f+i with the fi ligature found in Alphabetic Presentation forms, and f+f with the ff ligature, f+f+i with the ffi ligature, etc. Because OpenType fe...

Re: Too much space between lines when I test font

Keeping ascenders and descenders within the bounds of WinAscent and WinDescent avoids clashes even if line-spacing is set to 100% in word-processor or DTP applications. The default (Single) line-spacing should normally be at least 120% to make script faces more legible, but users can reduce line-spa...

Re: Too much space between lines when I test font

It is normal to keep all glyph contours within the WinAscent and WinDescent lines. If you open the glyph edit window, then double-click the Y Maximum and Y Minimum lines in the Font Information dialogue it will take you directly to the problematic glyphs. Edit the glyphs to delete unwanted component...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters

Ohw, that's tricky! I thought the character replacement would take place after typing a space. It's not like Autocorrect. The text string is unchanged. The font controls the onscreen rendering, and what is printed. If you change the font to one without ligatures you will get the original text ffi i...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters

Don't create a Symbol font — it's too limiting. Choose language (none) in PagePlus to disable spell-check. Windows Notepad supports Standard ligatures ( liga ) so as long as your font assigns SIN to a standard ligature, and as long as people are using Notepad, it will work until they want to type YO...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters

Ligatures are not the same as dead keys. If you type f f i then a font with OpenType ligatures will perform a glyph substitution and replace those three glyphs with a single ffi glyph. The text string remains as "f f i" when copied to the clipboard, and the word "difficult" is not highlighted as a s...

Re: Keyboard access to as many as possible characters

Switching keyboards is probably the only way to access more characters than there are keys on a keyboard. Private Use Area characters can only be inserted via some sort of Character Map. PagePlus has its own Insert Symbol dialogue, as does LibreOffice or Word, but other programs would rely on Windo...

Re: Cannot export or copy to another program

You could always take a screenshot and modify the bitmap in PhotoShop, then paste the modified bitmap back into FontCreator. It will be pasted at 0,0 so you will have to resize it, reposition it, and adjust the side-bearings. Later versions after FontCreator 10 support copy/paste of SVG via Inkscape...
