Re: Tom Collins
Thanks! I deliberately wanted the numbers (including currencies) to be different but also to look like they belonged. I may look at the 4 again though. I'll either lower it or raise but make it relate to the 2,3,5 and 9 more. The colon (and semi-colon) has been a pest. First it was enormous and now,...

Re: Tom Collins
And I've changed it again. More consistency between caps and lower case.

Re: Auto leading in Photoshop
Cheers, Dick. A strange way for PS to behave but at least I know it's not a problem with the font now.

Re: Auto leading in Photoshop
Yep, all was calculated by FC and I have adjusted nothing.
I can't understand why they overlap. It may well be a Photoshop foible or, more likely, an error on my part but it would be nice to understand it (as you know, the plethora of horizontal guides and bearings baffles me somewhat).

Auto leading in Photoshop
Possibly not a problem that anyone here can help with but I thought I'd try anyway. The leading on my new typeface is way out (too squashed) when typed in Photoshop. Oddly it goes the other way (overspaced) in Office. Shouldn't it be the same in any application? I've tried to add an enormous line ga...

Re: Tom Collins
It does, and I don't imagine I need to witter on about every alteration.
I find the drawing process (if you can call Adobe Illustrator ‘drawing’) very relaxing though. It's the technical aspect of creating the font that doesn't relax me so much.

Re: Tom Collins
Thanks for looking into it. Just to clarify, the blue image in my original post is the redrawn version with alterations. I scoured the book I thought I scanned it from but no joy. Here's the original scan with possibly the ugliest (and, thus, most identifiable) ampersand I've ever seen. The question...

Tom Collins
My second foray into fontmaking will be this typeface that is based on a scan from a long lost specimen book. I can't remember the name of the original but mine will be called Tom Collins (it's a tall, cool one).
I may be some time...

Re: Albers Combinatory Letters
It is indeed an ugly not def glyph, and ugly it shall stay! As for the out of whack x, X, 3 and 8; them's the pitfalls of making a typeface out of fixed pieces. You wouldn't snip bits off tangram would you? Here's a link to the original that I based it on. New version with position of questio...

Re: Albers Combinatory Letters
Following on from valuable feedback I attach Kombi version 1.1. It still has anomalies due to my insistence that none of the component shapes touch each other but some major clangers have been corrected. Plenty of basic characters are missing but I don't intend to add any more as I don't think any w...

Re: Albers Combinatory Letters
It's slowly seeping into my grey matter. Good work, chaps!
I thought it best to ask questions while making a simple font to aid learning.

Re: Albers Combinatory Letters
Excellent! Thanks, I think I understand some of that. What I'm hazy on is the relationship between the unicode number (eg. U+E000), the glyph code in Font Creator (eg. $002E) and the alt code (eg. Alt+0148). Presumably, if I were to share, sell or give a font with any alternates I would include some...

Re: Albers Combinatory Letters
I'm almost afraid to ask but; what do I do with alternative glyphs? I've perused the forum but answers to similar questions seem overly complex for my gin-addled noggin. So, I've got 5 or 6 alternative glyphs for various standard English lowercase and uppercase characters, to account for different t...

Re: Albers Combinatory Letters
I appreciate you taking the time to go over 'my' typeface, Dick. I'll try and respond to each of your points but please bear in mind my lack of technical knowledge or even my novice status when navigating a keyboard. :) 1. These anomolies are down to the fact that a space is required (in my mind) be...
