Re: Editorial (news) font classification?

I think the closest classification you are going to get is Modern. Early on they were called "Classical" until it was decided they were new designs and they began being called "Modern." Neo-Classical would be another term you may find. They inherit some of the Didone's attributes, but in a less "in ...

Re: Identify a font

You are most welcome, tonik!

fwiw, these types of script fonts come out a dozen or more a week. It is often difficult to tell them apart. For whatever reason, this one was easily recognized by the software I use (which is typically superior to the on-line identification places).

Re: Suggestion for Metrics

I've told you what the application is twice. DTL OTMaster 3.7 Light Here's a screen shot made up of 3 different fonts using the same 1000 upm. All 3 of them the letter A. All 3 of them from the same foundry. If you swapped metrics one to the other and generated a font (or used the Preview function i...

Re: Suggestion for Metrics

Any difference in shape from one character to another from one font to another can/will affect what is good practice. As well, some designers will have looser/tighter bearings on the same font than others would. This isn't like bearing tolerances or engineering for lift-load capacities, nor ... My p...

Re: Suggestion for Metrics

I think it is an exercise in futility and likely to cause more confusion than good. Especially how this really cannot be easily automated in FC to move one from another. DTL OTMaster 3.7 Light (DTL=Dutch Type Library), which is the free version, can display in a table the values you seek to see. cap...

Re: What do you use for "Preview Text" for Auto-Metrics?

Auto-metrics affects what will happen with auto-kerning. If one uses both, that is. Auto-metrics' preview text string basically does the same thing as auto-kern, just with respect to just side bearings as regards the Preview Text string. So the preview itself still has a good mix P & r is a good ind...

Re: What do you use for "Preview Text" for Auto-Metrics?

At only 20 characters, Preview Text is just fine as it does match up a few "important" characters/combination types. I've used it for a quick fix now and again. But I think auto-whatever generates too many classes than ideal and/or too many single character classes.. In general I spend more time on ...

Re: Join contours can cause unwanted contour changes

I don't know if this helps or not. Ccedilla has two curve handles under the tip's node. If those are gotten rid of either manually or due to what happens when the knife is used (it removes the two curve handles), then the join operation succeeds.

Re: What does "Outline Issues" mean?

The outline thing simply means (in my experience) that part of a glyph extends way outside the LSB, RSB or both.
