How to scale glyphs from one font into another
I am creating a font under the SIL Open Font License and would like to copy over some single and double line draw characters from another SIL font into my font. But the dimensions for them are not the same. Is there a way to select a bunch of glyphs and "change" their dimensions to match t...

Re: Testing Unicode Characters
Would the following test page be helpful for testing Unicode fonts? It is wonderful that we can use the temporary font to test, but then we need the characters. https://www.terena.org/activities/multiling/euroml/tests/test-ucspages1ucs.html There are also several test pages linked on the following p...

Re: MyFonts rejects fonts created from FontCreator?
Oh, interesting. So then there are two questions: 1) Is there any difference in the font file created between any of the Font Creator software versions, in that, do the non-professional versions create a file that is limited in some way? And, 2) Is there any difference in the font file created by th...

Re: How close does my courier font need to be to the original?
I do see what you mean about the four, but I could also say that since the seven does not have a serif, then we need to remove the serifs from both the one and the four to match. It is like a Rubik's cube that keeps shifting, depending on what characters and what parts of what characters one views a...

Re: How close does my courier font need to be to the original?
I thought I would group some characters together that maybe should have some similarities. I don't actually agree that the last f and r should be an exact match for the lower parts of the y and g and j that are shown, but it is fun to actually do that and examine the results. Maybe this is where fon...

How close does my courier font need to be to the original?
I was using the Courier New font in my fiction writing, but found the regular to be too thin, and the bold to be too thick. I then found Courier Prime, that in regular was a thickness I enjoyed using. This Courier Prime font is distributed under the SIL Open Font License (OFL) that allows one to mod...

Re: How to "support" a font I upload to a font website
Thank you. I will look into that while I consider having a website and an email address. I am not interested in creating a bunch of fonts, but I am interested in making the one I am working on really good and useful to others.

Re: What Unicode Characters to Include for most Latin alphabets
Bhikkhu, maybe what I was dreaming about has been created and is called the Windows Glyph List 4, or WGL4, which is a guideline for characters that would be used on many computer systems. Right now, this has many symbols that I am not interested in creating and it includes the Cyrillic and Greek cha...

Re: How to define a substitute font if mine not installed
Yes. Of course. I did have to think about it for a moment. The software I am typing in only knows the name of the font to look for on my computer. The font file on my computer can't tell your computer what font to use instead. If we embedded this list into our font files, then the software would hav...

Re: Combinations of keys
The answer is no. You do not define inside the font what the keyboard key presses are to obtain the characters inside the font. You need to find a table like shown at the below linked webpage to determine in your software, with your keyboard, the key strokes required to obtain the characters you wan...

Re: What Unicode Characters to Include for most Latin alphabets
The Eastern European Transform script (Tools, Glyph Transformer, Open) will do most of the hard work for you. Fascinating. I created a new font project. Then applied the Eastern European Transform script to that new project, and ended up with 461 glyphs. Then I did that transformation on the font I...

Re: What Unicode Characters to Include for most Latin alphabets
Hmm. It appears to me for that webpage to help me I would need to go to that page with a list of the languages that I wanted to support in hand. I don't have that list. I am an American who is designing a font who wants to be inclusive to some point with the characters that my font includes. Hey, ma...

How to "support" a font I upload to a font website
I have a pretty small web footprint, and try to keep my email out of the public. If I decide to upload the font I am working on, as a free font, based on the SIL Open Font License, on one of, or several of the free font sites, I am wondering how, or even if I should, include a website and public ema...

How to define a substitute font if mine not installed
Is there a way for me to embed into my font the name, or a lists of names in order, of the fonts that a computer should use if my font is not installed? I have read with great interest the web pages that help web designers understand what fonts they can expect to be installed on most mac and pc comp...
