Re: × Ignore / Delete positive kerning values

Specifically I'm having issues where FontCreator is taking perfectly good kerning pairs with negative values (for example AW and AV) and giving them positive kerning values. Has nothing to do with clashes. If I'm happy with my letter spacing (no clashes), and FontCreator can be set to block positiv...

OpenType Designer Code Editor: Replace/Sort

Hi everyone I am trying to publish a font and finding much of the work involved in the kerning process is being done in Excel using the OpenType code. Here are some of the basic processes that I am doing in Excel, which would help in the OpenType Designer Code Editor: 1. Replace / Replace All I use ...

Re: Ignore / Delete positive kerning values

We've removed that option, as too many people start believing only negative kerning is good. If your font only requires negative kerning, it is likely the bearings are not correct. I agree. If a font needs positive kerning then it should not be removed. Kerning lookup tables can be trimmed to remov...

× Ignore / Delete positive kerning values

Hi I just moved from FC8 Standard to FC12 Pro and the AutoKern no longer has the option to ignore positive kerning values when running the wizard. I ended up having to do it using character replacement after copying the OpenType code to Excel. Please bring back the option to ignore positive kerning ...

Re: "Allow for positive kerning values" missing in FC12

Okay I will add it into the feature request forum.

I went through the link you provide: Doesn't it get tedious to remove positive kerning pairs from a font with 114,000 pairs?

Hi I just moved from FC8 Standard to FC12 Pro and the AutoKern no longer has the option to remove positive kerning values when running the wizard. I ended up having to do it using character replacement after copying the OpenType code to Excel. What is the new method for preventing or removing positi...

Re: Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

Followed up a hunch based on your Italics comment. I just calculated the inverse tangent of the auto-generated anchor points in the letter below and discovered that it's 22 degrees. This is the exact same number as the "Italic Angle" under Properties > Identification. Turns out that was the problem ...

Re: Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

There is no way to control the auto-generation of anchors. The position of the anchor depends on the shape of the glyph. For a symmetrical italic glyph the anchor is centred accurately, with half pixels being rounded up. Anchor Placement.png The anchor is placed at 862, which is half way between th...

Re: Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

It does. Anchor Based composition does that and it mostly positions them correctly for the font. A couple of exceptions are Øslash and øslash where the top is the top of the slash, rather than Cap Height or x-Height as it is for O Caps and o lowercase. Ohorn and Uhorn anchors are positioned wrongly...

Re: Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

I think the quickest method is to use guidelines to align accents manually after using Complete Composites with the help of guidelines. It is not precise and takes some care to maintain consistency, but it takes no preliminary work. I agree if the context is a low volume of fonts and successful cha...

Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

Hi I recently upgraded to FontCreator 12 and am struggling to develop an efficient workflow for accented characters. Here are my two options right now: Edit CompositeData.xml I can edit CompositeData.xml to: align most accents to the center of the base glyph apply a left or right offset to grave and...

Re: How do we assign all Widths and Weights as font styles?

We did post it once to the forum and it is also described in more recent versions of the FontCreator manual. How to make fonts work like a family? Windows comes with several typefaces (font families) that are made up with more than 4 fonts. To name a few; Calibri contains 6 fonts, Segoe UI comes wi...
