Re: The function of reading a prepared list of pairs of characters to simplify kerning.

I have used the text from older fonts to accomplish this task, but two items confound the process: 1. You cannot save Class Manager classes to any preset or text file. Likewise, it doesn't seem to be written into the OTF font file. 2. If you are missing any glyphs, you get compiling errors when tryi...

I've made a horrible mistake. You should not make the same mistake as me.

Hello I made the decision to try using the Free Draw tool and a pen tablet to draw a new hand lettering font. I then took the results and used anchors and composites to fill out the rest of the glyphs. When I was ready to publish my font, I started noticing on closer inspection that the edges were i...

Re: Preloaded, User-Created, and Drag-and-Drop Glyph Mappings using Formulas

A better approach is to map the composite characters to the base glyph, e.g. set code-points of A to: $41, $C0, $C1, $C2, $C3, $C4, $C5 Note: this is not something we recommend, but in your case this might work. I can't set the code points of A. I can set the code points of $41 to A, then $C0 to A,...

[CLOSED] "Preserve Bearings" does not work on Formula composites

Hi everyone When using Glyph Transformer > Effects > Bold or Thin > Preserve Bearings, bearings are not preserved for composites created via formula. For single glyphs, such as d = D, you can chain bearings together using Glyph Member Properties > Use this glyph's metrics. However, for composites, s...

How to set multiple formula glyphs to "Use this glyph's metrics"

Hi everyone I took a look through Search and tutorials but I haven't seen anything along these lines. For glyphs that are created using Formulas, is there any way to set all of the glyphs to "Use this glyph's metrics" without going into each individual glyph and choosing Glyph Member Prope...

Re: Preloaded, User-Created, and Drag-and-Drop Glyph Mappings using Formulas

Why would anyone want to map all accented vowels to their base glyph? :? I would be happy to answer that question for you. And not just vowels, but all accented characters: Because for quite a few glyphs, Complete Composites won't map anything without diacritics Because not all clients pay for diac...

Preloaded, User-Created, and Drag-and-Drop Glyph Mappings using Formulas

Hi everyone Looking to minimize filesize on some old fonts and doing a lot of glyph mapping using Formulas. For example, making all uppercase A variations (Aring, Agrave, Aacute, etc) map to A 0065. All uppercase E variations map to E. Currently shift+ and ctrl+ clicking glyphs and then hitting the ...

Please add "Round Corners" a la Illustrator to Glyph Transformer

This is such an amazing feature and it would be a great addition to FontCreator. The way it works is that you enter a radius, and it changes all hard corners into a round corner with that radius. Works great on monoline cursive scripts and slab serifs, condensed sans serifs. I've attached two exampl...

Re: How to move anchors with Glyph Transformer > Italic

Thank you for providing me with your workflow. It's going to take a bit for me to process this as it's significantly different than what I've been doing, but I'll do my best. I appreciate your time on this matter. It's my understanding that the anchor positions are calculated by FontCreator based on...

Re: How to move anchors with Glyph Transformer > Italic

I ended up building out a spreadsheet to calculate the displacement based on the tangent of the italic angle and the distance from the baseline to the anchor. Unfortunately that doesn't seem like something that would be as easy for many users to do. I through it would be an easy solution since I onl...

How to move anchors with Glyph Transformer > Italic

My font uses anchors to assign accents to the composite glyphs. When I generate an oblique version by running Glyph Transformer > Effects > Italic, the anchors don't move. What settings should I use in order to get the anchor locations to update based on running the Glyph Transformer > Italic transf...

How do I write my own Glyph Transformer functions?

I found out that Fontforge has non-linear formula-based transformations, and have started experimenting with applying sine waves to outlines, such as in x=x+20*sin(y*0.05). FontCreator allows the use of XML to run Glyph Transformer scripts, but the existing functions are limited. How do we write our...

Re: Overlaps, Smart and Rounded Corners, Cursify

It's not a perfect solution, but you can use Fontforge's "Expand Stroke" effect to round corners before finishing your font in Fontcreator. I used this process for Neue Gothic Round and Brewmaster Gothic Round.

Re: Shadow Effects in FontCreator

If anyone is still looking to achieve this effect, it's available in FontForge:
Elements > Style > Shadow

I typically push my fonts to FontForge to apply effects or solve problems before finishing them in FontCreator.
