Re: Petite Capitals script

Thanks for the super-fast response , Bhikkhu Here are some super-fast comments on you notes before I digest the entirety of your comments: 1. The low modifier accents were left over from an experiment which I mentioned earlier … at one time they actually wound up in the correct position just above t...

Re: Petite Capitals script

I have bundled the font project with the versions of CompositeData and Petite Capitals Private Use which I used. I also included a brief note on what transpired and noted the accent marks I added in order to get a complete run. Even the oriiginal scale factors have been left in the original file but...

Re: Petite Capitals script

The best I could manage with the positioning of the accents was to move all of the high accents down by 440 after creating them with the Low Profile Diacritics script. This put them well below the x-height and when the Petite Capitals Private Use script was executed, these accents were moved up abov...

Behaviour of Input Fields

You folks really must do something about the outrageous behavior of the input boxes for the X and Y scaling in the Composite Glyph Properties window ... it drives me crazy!!!

Re: Petite Capitals script

Failing to find any more concrete information in the manual, I tried one more ploy: After creating the low-profile diacritics in the PUA, I moved all of the upper marks down well below the x-height level and I left the dot and comma below below the baseline where they belong. After running the Petit...

Re: Petite Capitals script

Thanks for the coaching, Bhikkhu. I basically understand how the Petite Capitals in PUA script functions so I thought that I would write a script to create the low profile diacritics, as you suggested, in the PUA as well. Actually, I discovered that I already had a script named Low Profile Diacritic...

Petite Capitals script

I am working with the Petite Capitals Private Use script and the thorn (Þ), the capital letter eng (Ŋ) and the capital ligature OE (Œ) were not being scaled down as they should be. I reasoned that since they were not being composed, they should be moved from the second <GlyphInsertCharacters> group ...

Re: Transformation parameters

Bhikkhu, your method of changing the number of funits in an em made that a simple task. Thanks

Re: Transformation parameters

but the bold transform is in funits. That was my point ... one must be aware of the difference the funits per em makes in these scripts. Now, I will have to play with changing the funits per em which I tried to do without success. Being an engineer, I prefer using reasoned values (numbers) as oppos...

Transformation parameters

At the risk of revealing my total ignorance of the subject, I will ask my question anyway. I am using the Medium to Bold.xml script on a font which only has 1000 units per em and the results are way out of the range of what I'd expected. In looking at the script file, I noticed that scale parameters...

Re: Add dot to font

Hey, Voyager, I completely understand wanting to just jump in and do stuff; that is my preferred method. However, creating fonts is a little more complex than one might suspect. Trust me, reading/watching a few tutorials will go a long way in shedding light on this subject and they might even inspir...

Re: unmapped glyphs

In the arabtype.ttf font you've mentioned, I find the "Arabic letter lam with small v" glyph at (uni06B5) and that glyph is also listed in the OpenType "InitialForms" (init) single substitution list, the "MedialForms" (medi) single substitution list and in the "TerminalForms" (fina) Alternate1 subst...

Re: Caladea Regular Displays as Italic

I noticed that under MainType's font information box, under General, the classification is Serif for each of the Caladea fonts except for the Italic font which is shown as Undefined. Panose Values: Regular____2-4-5-3-5-4-6-3-2-4 Italic______2-0-5-6-0-0-0-2-0-0 < ? Bold_______2-4-5-3-5-4-6-3-2-4 Bold...

Re: Caladea Regular Displays as Italic

I was able to duplicate what Erwin reported: when I deleted all of the Caladea fonts except the Regular and then exited and restarted MainType, the Caladea Regular did indeed display as Regular. However, after I re-installed only the Caladea Italic, both MainType and FontCreator again displayed both...
