Re: License suggestions?

And here in the USA, I've read commentary that embedding fonts into PDF's creates a problem when fonts are licensed with the GNU font. If a pdf has a GNU font embedded, I've read suggestions that the GNU license requires the entire project (here the PDF file, including the text) also be released un...

Re: Class sorting in Open Type Designer

Having sorted the glyphs with each base glyph followed by the composites that use it consistent positioning of anchors is now much easier, and I spotted some anomolies. It is worth doing, however I realised that if I had sorted the glyphs alphabetically in the main window before making the classes i...

Re: Problem with Code Editor in Open Type Designer

So it combines the classes, I can live with that. Sorry to cause a fuss.

No problem. I didn't understand what it was doing and why.

Re: Problem with Code Editor in Open Type Designer

I created two classes with names I could understand. When exported to a font the diacritic marks are correctly positioned in Libre Office and Page Plus. If I open Code Editor it discards my named classes and creates a new class with a name which to me is less understandable without asking. Then brin...

Problem with Code Editor in Open Type Designer

I have created two Classes in Open Type Designer. One called '@Basic_Base' which contains a list of all the base characters which have all the anchors. The other is called '@Cyrillic_Base' which contains a list of Cyrillic characters which have a restricted set of anchors. Whenever I open the code i...

Re: Class sorting in Open Type Designer

I want to sort the glyphs in a class. These classes are used for anchors not the ones used for other things. This is a ' nice to have ' rather than an ' essential ' and it only has to be done once per class so I will continue with sorting them by hand. But I will look at the code editor to see if th...

Class sorting in Open Type Designer

It is tedious to arrange the order of classes in Open Type Designer. It would be nice if there was a button which could sort the class into something useful. A very useful order would be each base glyph followed by the composites which use that glyph. So 'A' would be followed by 'Agrave','Aacute','A...

Re: Single Line Font Export Settings?

I don't know but I don't think so, I don't think it's in the standard.

I think single line fonts with open contours are a specialist format only used by CNC engraving machines.

Re: Single Line Font Export Settings?

Windows doesn't support single line fonts so it will close the contours by connecting the first point to the last point.

Single line fonts are supported on CNC engraving machines but you can't use them on Windows.

Re: Phantom Anchors

Thank you, I don't think I've seen that dialog before. I deleted the two unused anchors from the 'Italic' font. Interestingly the little red marker which appears in the corner of a font which has been changed didn't appear and the 'save all projects' icon on the toolbar was still grey. So as a test ...

Phantom Anchors

I don't know if this is a bug or not, but it is slightly annoying. There are some anchors which appear in the list of available anchors when I'm adding anchors to a glyph. One of these was a failed experiment and the other is there because I copied several glyphs with anchors from the 'Roman' to the...

Why not just use the italics button on your word processor it's much simpler.

Re: recommendations for textbooks on font design

The classic textbook on type design is ' The Elements of Typographic Style ' by Robert Bringhurst. It is used in several type design courses. I found it to be a very dry read and heavy going. If you can get hold of a copy then 'Letters of Credit' by Walter Tracy is a good read. However it is out of ...

Re: License suggestions?

I once toyed with the idea of selling my fonts, but I made some enquiries and the more I found out the less attractive it seemed. Most font vendors want to give you a pittance for each copy of your font they sell and some of them want you to put up a significant chunk of cash to indemnify them again...
