Re: Multiple marks

Sounds like a job for Stacking Diacritics.

They don't have to stack vertically, by changing the position of the anchors on the diacritic mark you can change the position where subsequent marks are added.

You need to learn about the open type designer and open type features.

Re: Fonts for neon signs

One further constraint if you are doing ' real ' neon signs (i.e. glass tubes filled with noble gasses with a flourescent substance coating the inside) is that one stroke cannot split in two like at the top of the 'T' and the junction of the 'Y' it has to be two strokes, there can only be one path f...

Fractions and Tabular Figures in FC 12

The automatically generated features of version 12 are great, but it seems they are not complete. For most of the OpenType features it doesn't matter if they affect each other because they will probably not be applied in combination, however 'tabular numbers' and 'fractions' are one combination that...

Re: Positioning of Anchors on Glyphs C and c

I think they work best when aligned with the visual centre. I don't know about all fonts, but here is how it works best for standard body text fonts like Pali. Geometric Centre for C Pali Italic Drag a vertical guide to the centre, and rotate by the italic angle about the centre. The left guide is ...

Re: Positioning of Anchors on Glyphs C and c

I have also noticed this. The positioning of anchors on some glyphs is not in an optimal position. This only happens with asymetrical glyphs but is especially noticable on 'C', 'G' and 'c', I guess estimating the optical centre is difficult. The diacritics over these glyphs look as though they are g...

Daniel Jacques

I have just put together a quick font which started out as a bet. Just one style (no italic or bold).

It is called 'Daniel Jaques'. It is a display font for titling and signage rather than body text.

Have fun ! :D

Yet another verification of Murphy's Law.
Hmm ... I did manage to reproduce what I had done, and with some improvements. But I must admit that I did curse the program at the time.

Re: Program Freeze

This is the first time I have had this happen with FC 12 but it has happened before on other versions, very intermittently and I was not able to reproduce it.

The only difference this time was the large number of unsaved changes. :(

Program Freeze

After making many unsaved changes to a font I am working on I did a simple union of contours and the program stopped (not responding), I thought it might be taking it's time so I left it for a while, enough time for me to go to the kitchen and make a cup of tea then return to the study. The program ...

Re: Auto Metrics and Anchors

You are correct, auto metrics does adjust the positions of the anchors when adjusting the side bearings of the glyph. I have just done another experiment. Sorry for posting this spurious request.

I am still coming to terms with all the differences in FC 12.

Re: Auto Metrics and Anchors

Auto Metrics adjusts side bearings but doesn't reposition anchors. Anchor positioning and anchor repositioning makes a good attempt at positioning the anchors and on the whole does a good job but gets some of them in positions which are close but not optimal. When they have been manually repositione...

Auto Metrics and Anchors

It would be nice if when Auto Metrics adjusts the left side bearing of a glyph it adjusted the positions of the Anchors by the same amount. For instance if it reduces the LSB of a particular glyph by 42 it then adds -42 to the positions of the anchors so they are in the same position relative to the...

Re: A question about the IJ digraph

Language changes slowly but continuously over time and adjacent languages affect each other. It is a continuous spectrum rather than distinct colours as words and ways of expressing onesself do not respect cultural or political borders. Also those who view a language from outside a culture have a di...

Re: A question about the IJ digraph

I have a question about these macinations with the IJ digraph being made acute.

Do they apply to Flemish as well as standard Dutch?
