Cadman

I have just uploaded a new font to DeviantArt.

It is called Cadman and is a sans serif designed for legibility.

It has the Greek alphabet and many mathematical operators, it also has lining tabular digits.

Re: Hinting Program problems

The new version worked fine without any problems and without any changes to the font.

I will have to update to the new version on my laptop as well because it seems I cant open the new project files with 11.0.0.2412

Thanks for your help :D

Re: Hinting Program problems

I am currently running 11.0.0.2412 , I was thinking about trying the newer version posted on the Beta Test forum but I don't need single line fonts for CNC or support for vertical writing.

I will try this version and let you know the results.

Hinting Program problems

I'm having trouble with the program Font Creator uses to add hints to my fonts. For some reason it doesn't like my fonts (all four of the same family) but still works on other fonts I have created. This is not the same problem as it had previously with component depth greater than 3. These fonts hav...

Re: Disappearance of small letter i diacritics when clicking composite icon

Complete composites works by combining other characters to either complete the character correctly or give you something close which you can work with to make it correct manually. If the characters it is supposed to use for the composites are not there it leaves a blank character, I don't think this...

Re: Font issue in Word 2016

It is possible to alter the side bearings in a unicode font! :D

You can set them to be as close or as far apart as you want.

Re: Positioning of Diacritic Marks when doing Optical Metrics

It is a matter of aesthetic judgement as to where to place the diacritic, complete composites usually gets it close enough for upright characters but the results for italics are less good.

Complete composites is a good starting point for the placement of diacritics.

Positioning of Diacritic Marks when doing Optical Metrics

A change which was introduced in FC 11 was that if a composite glyph has the 'use this glyphs metrics' flag set then Optical Metrics will not change the bearings of that glyph, the glyph will continue to use the bearings of the base glyph. This was a very welcome change and FC 11 is better for havin...

Good call Bhikkhu Pesala !

This solves the problem without Erwin needing to do anything, I had seen the tick boxes, I just didn't think to try them, silly me!

Glyph Outlines in Open Type Designer

In Open Type Designer there is the facility to set the colour of the glyphs, I set it to 20% Grey and this is very useful but it would be nice if the outlines of both glyphs were to show through where they overlap. At the moment where glyphs overlap one is drawn on top of the other one and obscures ...

Re: Overlapping pair adjustments -- problem or not?

There is no hard rule for this. It is usually considered bad form to have collisions between characters but there are some circumstances where it can work quite well. It is up to the designer and the design of the glyphs.

Re: What's this font?

That is an incredibly bad scan.

About 30 seconds of searching on the internet turned up this image of a different issue.

The font is reproduced at a better resolution.

Re: Grid Lines and Metrics Lines

I would also support this.

Maybe with a different default for italic and upright.

But just to be able to set a default for both would be good.

Re: Cyrillic characters

I just noticed that, for the Italic, you made the small letter Zhe like composite of the inverted and normal small letter Ka, but that shape is more typically for the Sans Serif Italic fonts, although there are quite a number of the Serif fonts with that shape, for example the Palatino Linotype. Ye...
