Ye Alde Font Familie

I present to thee... Ye Alde Font Familie! This set of fonts is based on the metal type created by the 16th-century London-based printer, John Alde. Below is a single, simple graphic showing the 5 fonts that are in this family, with their having been faithfully-reproduced in digital format from the ...

Re: Printing-to-PDF the character set

Omigod, that's quite a font you created there, Bhikkhu! Are you sure you got all the possible glyph slots filled up? I think you may have missed one -- just one. ;) Seriously, that's quite a font! Talk about "complete"! Very cool about the template, too -- although I don't have LibreOffice nor Word ...

Re: Printing-to-PDF the character set

Microsoft Word also comes with an option to Export as PDF. I don't know if that makes a difference. I don't have Word, but I was just thinking that if I really wanted my character set to have the font embedded, I could always design it in Photoshop or something, and print it that way -- but meh, wh...

Re: Printing-to-PDF the character set

Interesting. I have the full version of Acrobat X Pro, and definitely checked the option to embed all fonts (or, rather UNchecked the option to NOT embed fonts), but my font didn't embed. And using the "touch up text" tool, when I hover over each glyph with my mouse, it doesn't change to the usual c...

Printing-to-PDF the character set

This is odd... I wanted to make available the character set for each of my fonts in PDF format, so in the process of doing so, I told Acrobat to "embed all fonts" -- naturally I wanted people to be able to see my font as my font, and not as Times New Roman or something, of course. ;) Interestingly, ...

Re: License suggestions?

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on the idea of selling my fonts, too -- from what I've heard from other type designers I've known, if I made a whopping $100/year from them in royalties I'd be amazed, and that's just not worth the effort of my having to now declare income as a business, do my taxes f...

Re: License suggestions?

Here's another license, the GNU FreeFont License, which I guess is similar (in ways) to the SIL Open Font License... https://www.gnu.org/software/freefont/license.html This is so frustrating for me, actually. I've been working on my fonts for YEARS now, I think I'm finally finished up with them all,...

Re: Family Issues

Thanks SO much to MikeW for taking a look at my fonts and resolving this issue for me! I already thanked you privately, of course, but just wanted to do so here, too, and explain what the issue was (in case perhaps anyone else encounters it). As it turns out, the problem wasn't with all 5 of my font...

Ordinals

Every time I think I'm finally nearly finished with my fonts, I come across yet another thing I'd like to add in -- this time ordinals! I came across this thread rather by accident, while searching for something else here... https://forum.high-logic.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7202 I never realized tha...

Re: Family Issues

If you say so. Adobe applications do cache font information. Yeah, but I've never had any issue like this before. :( If you would like, I would review the fonts. If it isn't the cache you've done something wrong. Sure! I was going to make sure you got a set of them anyway, since you've been so kind...

Font foundry info?

When I look at my currently installed fonts in MainType, many (but not all) of the fonts have something listed under the "Foundry" column -- lots of Adobe, Bitstream, and other well-known names (along with a few not-so-well known). My fonts are just blank in that column, though. Where does one fill ...

Re: Family Issues

It may be the Adobe font caches causing the issue in PS. Do a search for what files to globally find and delete. Without an Adobe application running, of course. Then try running PS again. No, that's definitely not it, as I quite regularly reinstall my fonts and PS updates things no problem (you ju...

Should I delete all my empty glyphs?

When you've finished up your font, and are ready to "put it out there" for people to download/use, how important is it to delete all the unused, empty glyphs? In each of my fonts I have tons and tons of empty glyphs in the PUA section of each font. The reason for that is because all the various liga...

Family Issues

No, not that kind of family issues -- wrong forum for that. ;) I don't know what to do about my font naming -- which came up elsewhere in another thread, with some great suggestions, but I've discovered that it leads to issues that I don't know what to do about. I currently have a family of five fon...
