Without seeing the font, I wouldn't be able to say how well it will work. The glyph transform feature will make a lighter version of a regular font, but bold fonts usually have thick and thin strokes. In this case the thin strokes might disappear or cross over before the thick strokes were thin enou...

You can resize proportionally by holding down the shift key while dragging the corner handle with the mouse. The Transformation toolbar allows you to resize, reposition, scale, etc., with great precision. Worth learning how to use it. Enter the finished size in funits, select a corner or the centre ...

Synchronise Typefaces

When working on four typestyles of a font, it would be useful to have some way of synchronising the overviews so that the same glyphs from each typestyle are displayed in tiled windows. One way to do this is with bookmarks. Currently, go to bookmark works for the current window. With a synchronise o...

The article is too much for me to take on board. We do not need to concern ourselves with how Greeks or classical scholars want to write Greek. All we need to decide is how best to compose the composite glyphs - whether with small iota (953) following like Gentium, or with prosgegrammeni accent (890...

Thanks for the feedback. With a little more effort, we can get this right. I edited my post to include the missing characters: 8151-8155  I agree it is better to use the combined accents where they exist. It would make positioning easier. I thought I had used only Greek extended accen...

I add my vote to the request for launching different external programs, but have you checked out the new Insert Character feature? If you choose a font such as MS Arial Unicode, this will serve as a built-in character map. One as yet undocumented tip for inserting a range of characters:  Doub...

You can make letters bolder with the Glyph Transformer. Tools, Glyph Transformer, Effects, Bold. Save your font before using Transform as there is no undo for this feature. Close and reopen the font without saving if the effect is not right, and adjust the parameters for the effect to try again. You...

Compose Composites Data File Update

Erwin has posted my updated version of CompositeData.xml for those who need to complete composites for the Extended Greek character set. Make a backup copy of the existing CompositeData.xml file, and save this update to your <install directory\Composites\ folder. Your font will need to contain the b...

The Greek Extended data for CompositesData.xml has not been added yet. I was hoping someone else with knowledge of Greek would do it. I didn't give it much thought to be honest, assuming that few if any users would need it. I needed some of the Latin Extended Additional characters myself, so I thoug...

The size for the scanned image recommended in the help file is 100 to 500 pixels. If you scanned at only 300 dpi the original image would need to be about 1" high, but normal handwriting is usually much smaller. I scanned some typical handwriting at 1200 dpi and got an image that was only 240 pixels...

Hold down the control key while using the arrow keys.

Check out the Transformation toolbar too. It can be used to move and resize contours and move nodes with pixel precision.

How are you adding the circles? The way I did it was to use composites to create Enclosed Alphanumerics. Since all of the symbols use the same large white circle, they are all the same width (2048 funits), and do not require kerning. Font Creator 5 will add these symbols to your font automatically a...
