As far as I can tell, this does not happen. Bold or italics text will kern, but of you mix Bold and regular or regular and italic text there will be no kerning between letter pairs of different typestyles.

It is not easy at all to answer as it depends on the programs you are using. What you say you want to do is assign the extra letters to the blank spaces in character map from 141-144 and 157-158. However, these are control characters so they should not be used to map characters as far as I know. I t...

Glyph Transformation - Retaining Advance Width

I want to change the italic angle of a font from 7º to 9º. I can figure out the right amount of skew to use in the Glyph Transformer to get the right angle, but the advance width changes. How can I apply the skew witout changing the advance width? Setting the left side-bearing to 0 is not enough. Ed...

There is a difference between the Home Edtion and the Professional Edition. If you're using the 30-day trial, you have the full Pro edition which has a feature called "Get union of contours." Select the two contours you want to join together, and use this feature. There is no need to join individual...

Yes. Very easy. Format, metrics, and set "regular" for the font design. Clear all the flags for the Mac. Then run autonaming to rename it to regular. I think that is all you need to do.

Sounds like you have mapped them wrongly. When you say that they are generally OK does that mean they work in other programs, or just that they look OK in Font Creator's test window? Character • Decimal • Hexadecimal Ẽ • 7868 • 1EBC ẽ • 7869 • 1EBD Ĩ • 296 • 0128 ĩ • 297 • 0129 Ũ • 360 • 0168 ũ • 36...

Macromedia Fontographer Bought by Fontlab Ltd.

Maybe some users will be interested to know this news.

What affect, if any, is this merger of the competition likely to have on Font Creator?

Updated again with a few more symbols from the latest Unicode 4.1.0 standard. The character set is not yet complete.

Fractions are now composed only with superscripts. CompositeData.xml has also been updated to use this method.

From the View Menu, Toolbars, select the Comparison toolbar. Click the checkbox to display comparison characters before and after the current character like this: comparison.png Characters don't need to be the same width. In most fonts, the m is wider than the i or l. Only the digits and currency sy...

The key phrase is if you want to do a proper job. There are tons of free fonts that you can download, but few that stand up to scrutiny. 52 letters and 10 numbers, and then you need punctuation. See the recommended glyphs. I'm not trying to put you off, just warning you that you might have to do a l...

1. If you can draw the font with a felt-tip pen, Font Creator can easily make a font from scanned images. See the My First Font tutorial 2. Weeks rather than days, maybe months if you want to do a proper job, but not years. 3. Bold can usually be created automatically. Oblique (slanted) is easy too,...

The tutorial is now much improved. Panosing fonts can be daunting, but to add the first few fields at least will certainly make one's fonts much easier to sort. MainType can use the Panose information in fonts to sort or filter them. I hope that later versions of Font Creator or MainType will offer ...
