Black Circle - Contour Direction

I found that by reversing a black circle I can use it as a base character for white numerals using composites. The font validation reports the counter-clockwise direction as an error. Is it better to convert all these composites into simple glyphs and reverse the direction of the inner contours inst...

Font Creator can apparently handle extremely large fonts. Someone was editing CJK fonts with thousands of glyphs. The largest I have is Titus, which is 9789 glyphs. That opens in 5 seconds on my 1Ghz AMD Athlon PC.

Just download the free trial and see if it does what you want.

Take a look at Format, Settings, Post (script), Fixed Pitch. If this is set to 1, change it to 0 and see if that solves the problem.

The Preview Toolbar (View, Toolbars) will help in adjusting the left side-bearing and advance width so that less kerning is necessary. I experimented with the lowercase i, but overdid a bit (see below). The spindly appearance at small sizes is due to lack of hinting information. Font Creator does no...

Launch Externals

It would be nice to be able to add Babel Map to the launch externals menu, or another program that others might find useful, e.g. windows calculator or Irfan View.

I found a setting for monospaced fonts. Look on the Settings, Post(script)tab. For monospaced fonts try changing the "Fixed pitch" field from 0 to 1. If that doesn't work, (I'm only guessing that it will), you may have to create a bold variant of your regular font so that Windows uses that when you ...

It sounds like you're trying to edit an installed font, that's why you are getting the message. Save installed fonts as a copy first, and then edit. Always advisable to work from a copy anyway.

That seems to work well. I created combining diacritics from spacing modifier diacritics, and inverted breve and caron, from breve and caron. Using composites of composites meant that inverted breve and caron below could be scaled vertically by 90% to fit better. One cannot rotate (invert) and scale...

Tools, Glyph Transformer, Effects, Scale, Range All, 80%. Probably you want the glyphs to scale around the origin, a fixed point at 0,0

There is no undo for glyph tranformation, so just close without saving and reopen the font if it is not right first time.

Composites of Composites - Good or Not?

If I want to add a dot accent below to a font that already has dot accent above, is it OK to use a composite for that and just shift it down, then use that composite dot accent below as an element in other composites? It seems to work just fine, but is it good practice? A similar dilemma is how to c...

Make sure you have the latest version.

Then Tools, Glyph Transformer..., Metrics, Left side-bearing Point at x=0

Add that transformation to the panel on the right, and remove any other transformations you find there. Then apply to all glyphs: Range, all.

The easiest way woud be to copy the symbols from another font, then modify them to suit what you want. You will find a few shapes on the samples toolbar, which you can drag into any glyph edit window for editing. View Menu, Toolbars, Samples. You can also copy contours from glyphs in the current fon...

Export as Windows Meta File and import that into Font Creator. Corel Draw also has a Truetype Export filter.

See this thread for some screen shots of the results to be expected from WMF import. You will have a little bit of tidying up to do in Font Creator.

The way I see it is, if you want to design fonts from scratch, you should draw them in Font Creator. The import image feature is there for those who prefer to draw on paper or who want to use a printed font as a template. Then some people wanted the greater power of a graphics program to draw using ...

It looks to me that Font Creator's import function is working very well, though the only thing I have to compare ti with is something like autotrace in Corel Draw. You may find this post on bezier curves interesting.
