That's the trouble with bitmaps

:? Bitmaps are jagged by nature. This has come up before, and requests have been made for import of vector formats like EPS or WFM. There is no TTF export filter in Corel Draw 9, but if you have an earlier version you can export to a TTF, then open that font in Font Creator for final editing.

You will probably have to modify each character manually

See this previous thread on inflating and eroding glyphs. That means making bold from regular, or making regular from bold fonts. http://forum.high-logic.com/viewtopic.php?t=34  Try using the Transformation toolbar to scale glyphs. Use guidelines extensively to check alignment/positio...

Bold Wingdings?

:? As I understand it, bold is never used for symbol fonts. Opening a few on my system shows that none of them are. If your font is pictograms rather than letters, why do you want to make it bold? If it is letters, and you want to make bold and regular versions, you can change it to a Unicode font. ...

Still no answer to this question

I have tried reading the relevant links on Microsoft's Typography page, and it seems that one should change TypoLineGap to make the total add up right. TypoAscender + TypoDescender + TypoLineGap = units/em * 120% So for 1000 units/em this should add up to 1200. Theoretically, this should give a defa...

Contentment is the Greatest Wealth

I guess if you recently completed an MA in Typeface Design at the University of Reading, England, you would know a bit more about type design. I registered at the end of October 2002, but I'm still struggling to figure some things out. I haven't even looked at hinting, grayscale, Macintosh support, ...

Something to Aspire to

Have a look at this website.

The Gentium font is beautifully designed, and the Website is also a model of good design.

Converting Bitmaps to Vectors

:? I don't know how to convert *.fnt to *.ttf. I don't even know why anyone would want to do it? I undestand that *.fnt files are low-resolution fonts defined for dispaly on screen at fixed point sizes.

Please enlighten me.

Hinting Information

As far as I know, Font Creator only supports hinting that already exists, you cannot add hinting information. I hope that Erwin or someone else will soon correct me if I am wrong about that. As you found, with font-smoothing turned on, hinting is not necessary at all. It only applies to low resoluti...

Hinting and Greyscale

It is probably because the font lacks hinting information. If it is a spindly script font, it might not look too good on screen. Have you got font smoothing turned on? Right-click on Desktop, Display Properties, Effects.

Also take a look at the thread on Aliasing on this forum.

RTFM - Read the Font Manual

:D Have you read the Getting Started manual and the help file yet? http://www.high-logic.com/download.html Did you use a template to start your new font? You should have done, then you won't have to map any characters, just make sure you paste characters into the correct position. Apostrophe is mapp...

Duplicates and Composites

In the Overview Windows (where you can see the whole font), select the i, copy it (Control C). Insert a glyph wherever you want. Paste the "i" in there. This will copy the glyph and its side-bearings and advance width. Double-click or enter to open the glyph edit window and delete the dot to get a d...

Guidelines

I would enlarge your symbols by an exact multiple of 2, to 64 or 128 pixels. I would import the Marlett character g (the black square) into your font and drag guidelines to each side of the square. Then I would use those guidelines to centre the new symbols and maintain the correct proportions and l...

Faux Italic Fonts

It is fairly easy to create oblique versions of fonts in Font Creator, but as you know, these are not true italics, which would require the glyphs to be completely redesigned. In the glyph edit window, select all contours and use the Transformation Toolbar (available from the View, Toolbars menu) to...

Font not working in Windows ME

I installed the font. When I typed in Wordpad or tested the font in Font Creator, I got only Greek symbols. I had a look at it, and all the mapping seems similar to Wingdings, which I guess is correct for a symbol font. You have apparently used Font Creator's symbol template when creating the font, ...
