I found that CutePDF seems to do just as good a job as PDF995, but without the nag screens. It also seems to be faster, and very much faster than PDF Factory.

It is up to your layout program to do this. In PagePlus (I used PP9) one could simply convert the text to curves and the word will then have no left and right side-bearings. Nallihan.png The top word is artistic text, the bottom word has been converted to curves. Notice the difference in the sizes o...

It may be possible to use kerning pairs for this.

You can make a kerning pair for [space] P too if required, but probably a waste of time. Use manual kerning in your application.

The upgrade price is listed as $70 — the same as the price difference. I can cut and paste from IrfanView into FontCreator and you can do that with the Home Edition too, so I would be surprised if Illustrator cannot do the same. If Illustrator doesn't copy a bitmap to the clipboard, then print scree...

Although the pricing is significantly different, so too is the feature set. See the Feature Comparison Chart . In terms of productivity, the Pro version is many times more efficient. If you spend any significant amount of time editing fonts, you will soon appreciate the extra value. If you post a li...

See Font Type in the manual. For the fonts to work together as a set, they must all have the identical name, but different font styles.

I thought computers were supposed to save us time. It would be quicker to use a pen and paper.

Using OpenType glyph substitutions it would be possible to make different forms of the letter e (for example) follow on from different letters. It would not be possible AFAIK to make random glyphs appear. Only a few programs like InDesign support OpenType features, so it is a moot point whether it i...

I ran into this one too and reported somewhere. Is it a bug in MainType, in FontCreator, or in Windows? ;)

I think it is a feature request for Font Creator.

Although I am a touch typist, I think the mouse is much faster for this task. Use the lasso tool for awkward cases. You can also use shift to add/remove points to/from a selection with the selection tools.

Press shortcut "P" to display up to 256 selected glyphs (IIRC) in the Preview Toolbar. Cut and paste from there to get them into the Font Test Window (or into the Comparison Toolbar).

I could be wrong, as there are an aweful lot of character sets in the Unicode standard, but I don't think they have an assigned codepoint. You would have to use the Private Use Area. Do you know of any fonts with these symbols? I thought I had seen them somewhere, but I don't see them now in Minion ...
