Re: Mandala • Circles

Version 2.30 improved some glyphs, harmonised bearings, added uppercase subscripts, added uppercase support to fraction, superscript, and subscript features, added OldStyle figures to fractions, adjusted side-bearings and advance width of standard fractions, and fixed some bugs. Updated OpenType Lay...

Re: Arabic-style script with initial, medial etc. forms

You may have to work out the code on your own as most of us don't use Arabic scripts.

This thread on creating a fraction feature demonstrates contextual substitutions.

Re: Stylistic Set Substitutions

Stylistic Sets ( ss01-ss20 ) are used to replace each of a range of characters with alternate glyphs. When the feature is enabled, each glyph in the lookup is replaced with its alternate substitution. Character Variants ( cv01=cv99 ) are similar, but typically used on a one-off basis. Some features...

Re: Ignore / Delete positive kerning values

We've removed that option, as too many people start believing only negative kerning is good. If your font only requires negative kerning, it is likely the bearings are not correct. I agree. If a font needs positive kerning then it should not be removed. Kerning lookup tables can be trimmed to remov...

Re: Positioning of Anchors on Glyphs C and c

I think they work best when aligned with the visual centre. I don't know about all fonts, but here is how it works best for standard body text fonts like Pali. Geometric Centre for C Pali Italic Drag a vertical guide to the centre, and rotate by the italic angle about the centre. The left guide is t...

Lock Individual Guides

I would like an option to lock individual guides as well as to lock all guides. I set guides for snapping to Cap Height, x-Height, and Baseline. Equally useful would be to snap to metric lines; one can lock them, but snapping is not an option.

Positioning of Anchors on Glyphs C and c

When I use anchor based positioning, the top and bottom anchors on Capital C and lowercase c are offset, as one might expect for an italic font, but the font is not italic. Why are they positioned like this? Anchor Positions.png The anchors for the italic style are also offset from the font's italic...

Re: Stylistic Set Substitutions

Then, in the Open Type Designer I created „StylisticSet1_1 (ss01)”, what gave me access to to some mysterious table, where I can choose: • Sylistic Set, • Language ID (but what if I'd like to use te set in all languages?) and • Content (what to type there???). You don't need to add anything there f...

Re: Mandala • Circles

This is a long overdue update for Mandala, done using the Anchor Based composition and other new features in FontCreator 12. See the first post for details and download links. It has taken about a month to get to this first release of a new version. Spacing was adjusted using Optical metrics (also f...

Re: "Allow for positive kerning values" missing in FC12

I went through the link you provide: Doesn't it get tedious to remove positive kerning pairs from a font with 114,000 pairs? It's not nearly as hard as you think. There are only 1,672 kerning pairs because of class-based kerning. However, I do not remove positive kerning pairs because they are need...

Re: "Allow for positive kerning values" missing in FC12

There isn't any automatic method. The kerning pairs are colour-coded for easy identification. Green = Negative Blue = Positive Red = Zero You can remove adjustment pairs that have a small value by using the Trim Option. For large fonts, splitting the kerning pairs into subtables makes it easier to c...

Re: Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

The Help file says that the italic angle should be zero for upright fonts. Italic Angle Italic angle in degrees from the vertical. Zero for upright text, positive for text that leans to the right (forward). If any font lacks an italic style, and users apply italics to it, Windows will slant the tex...

Re: Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

There is no way to control the auto-generation of anchors. The position of the anchor depends on the shape of the glyph. For a symmetrical italic glyph the anchor is centred accurately, with half pixels being rounded up. Anchor Placement.png The anchor is placed at 862, which is half way between the...

Re: Accented Characters: Most efficient path to composites

FontCreator doesn't have an easy way to add a large volume of anchors though. It does. Anchor Based composition does that and it mostly positions them correctly for the font. A couple of exceptions are Øslash and øslash where the top is the top of the slash, rather than Cap Height or x-Height as it...
