Re: Brahmic scripts
The issue is can the OS and/or application handle shaping for X language. So I guess the question is, can Windows render Tamil ? And a subsequent question, Can Mac OS render Tamil ? I have been asked to add Tamil to ' Bainsley ', it has become apparent that there is a lot more to it than just addin...

Brahmic scripts
If I were to design a Brahmic script like Tamil would it need to use a shaping engine like the Arabic fonts ?
If it does then is this automatic or do I have to do something ?

Re: newbie question: how to... vowel diacritics in original fantasy font
You can correctly position diacritic marks with ' Anchors '. You have to name the anchor but when you have a base character with a base anchor followed by a mark character with a mark anchor with the corresponding name then the mark character is re-positioned so it's anchor is in the same place as t...

Used by ...
It seems to me that the 'Used By ...' function would be even more useful if it also reported if the glyph was used by an Open Type feature.
I don't know if this would be easy or hard to implement but it would enhance the program.

Re: Add extra glyphs/ligatures without unicode code-point
Under the menu ' Insert ' -> ' Glyphs ... ' then select how many to insert and where you want them (I usually put them after the last glyph ). They will be classified as ' Unused ' unless they are used by an Open Type feature like a ligature substitution. Unused glyphs are not accessible in applicat...

Re: Inserting Glyphs in Test Desktop Font
Perhaps a drop down character selection grid like in the 'Character Map' program somewhere in the preview panel would be quite useful in a limited number of circumstances (for me at least) as an alternative to typing for more arcane languages like Georgian and Armenian because I only have a Latin ke...

Re: none similar web font smoothing/hinting
TTFautohint is pretty good at hinting a font, just not quite as good as doing it manually, but doing it manually is a LOT of work. The automatic hinting is good enough in my opinion.

I believe it is just processed once and that it is treated as just one glyph.

An update, I added a couple of instances and corrected some issues which were pointed out in the previous post. Time to move on to new endeavours I think.

Re: Sans Mateo
Version 2 of Sans Mateo is a variable font, a few mistakes have been sorted out and inconsistencies harmonised. The .ZIP file contains the two variable fonts (one for upright and one for italic) plus the four non variable fixed fonts and a WOFF folder with the variable webfonts. If anyone wants the ...

Re: A question regarding fonts
All the 'a' characters came out the same in your post but I assume you mean the single storey 'a' and the two storey 'a'. The handwriting 'a' with a single loop is called the single storey 'a'. The more complex 'a' with a loop at the bottom and a hook over the top is the two storey 'a'. I have no id...

Re: Create bold variant for only certain glyphs?
If you did a stylistic alternative for just the glyphs you want to embolden then it could be done that way.
