Music Enhanced Text Fonts
People who write text around music, or about music, often need fonts with just a few music symbols to be inserted in the text. And yet very few fonts actually have them. So we've defined a 'Level 1 Music Enhanced Text Font' as one which contains the symbols: U+00B0 ° - degree sign for diminished cho...

Glyphs apprently 'locked' not editable?
I've encountered the situation a few times now where a glyph is 'locked'. The 'show contours', and 'show points' buttons are disabled, and editing the glyph is not possible. I've been looking through the help for how to enable editing, but no luck so far. How do I tell the program that I want to edi...

Re: Antialiasing again
The colors you see are due to sub-pixel font rendering. I suspect you have turned on ClearType, and are using an LCD monitor. What you see on screen depends on the specific rasterizer, the screen type (CRT, LCD, etc), the display quality settings, and what related information is stored in the font ...

Antialiasing again
Still having problems with antialiasing. (Using FontCreator 7.5.0 build 519). Taking on board the idea of using grey-scale and/or grid-fitting according to size of font, I've been experimenting as follows. Leave the default for the moment: all the same up to 65535 Switch between grey-scale, grid-fit...

Re: Antialiasing
Thanks for the help! I think I'm sliding up and down a learning curve here :-) I've tried antialiasing and hinting, and I'm getting some weird results. (And BTW the Font Creator test window is incredibly useful!) At 10point and 12point the font looks 'reasonable' on screen. At 11 points some charact...

Re: Antialiasing
In the smoothing dialogue box, I see one can specify different 'ranges' each with an upper 'limit'.
To what quantity does the limit refer? Is it some measure of the height of the font in pixels?

Thanks. I'm using v7. I'll read up on hinting.

Antialiasing
I have just created a new font, added lots of glyphs, exported and installed the .ttf file. Testing it in Word 2007 and Notepad (on Win 7), it appears that there is no antialiasing (though other fonts are working fine). fonts.png In the 'smoothing' window I have Limit:65535 Standard:Gray ClearType:S...

Re: Font names
Font creator is great IMHO. I set up some special fonts that are highly modified versions of another font. They are essentially graphics. I save the font as MyFont.ttf In Windows 7, it shows as "MyFont Regular" so my programs can not find MyFont.TTF I have tried everything under naming. A...

Re: Fonts with text and (large) symbols
...my desiderata: (a) a font which can be used for music and normal text (b) the five line staff = the point height (c) the point height gives a reasonably compatible text size (d) without excessive line spacing seem mutually incompatible! A sudden thought occurs. I could relax criterion (c) and do...

Re: Fonts with text and (large) symbols
For this special purpose font, would the following help? Lower the letters so that their baseline is below the normal baseline of the font, perhaps with the base of the capitals being at -512 font units. Add lowercase letters with an x-height that is a little less than the height of the capitals an...

Re: Fonts with text and (large) symbols
... I would be very surprised if you cannot set the line-spacing in Word to 70% or whatever you want ... You're quite right - it can be done in Word. I was trying the wrong way. But it crops characters which are too tall, rather than letting them overlap the next (or previous) line. And I don't thi...

Re: Fonts with text and (large) symbols
According to the FontCreator manual TypoAscender and TypoDescender can be used to define the line-spacing. If you're writing the application, can't you make it do that? In principle, in my application, yes. In Windows GDI (the traditional Windows module invoked to draw things) you just load a font ...

Fonts with text and (large) symbols
Now I am 100% sure that all glyphs must fit between WinAscent and WinDescent lines, I'm faced with some stark options for my music+text font. Here's a chunk of my font, with text and symbols: textandsymbols.gif The 5-line stave symbol (after the first sentence) has height exactly equal to UnitsPerEm...

Re: Glyph properties
How did you do that? I even looked in the help system, and the top boundary is missing from the illustration there: So I assumed it was a design feature.Bhikkhu Pesala wrote: It definitely looks like a bug.
