Re: Diacritics Missing from Majuscule Composites

Thanks for the input which has now been read and reasonably understood after a first reading. Let me just point out, however, that these detailed pieces of information should be located in the manual pdf file rather than in different threads dispersed in the High Logic forum or fora. One assumes tha...

Diacritics Missing from Majuscule Composites

The word Majiscule is misspelt. can someone please correct it to majuscule? I do not know how to do it. This problem has come up again. I am working on the Cursive Testfont for the VOLT thread and again I am not able to complete the majuscule composites. The minuscule are fine and also the majuscule...

Re: Creating new files without hidden characters

I investigated this issue and it is a problem with the X-Fonter filters which must inherit characters from other default font files in the windows system font folder. Nothing to do with Font Creator. May be I have to consider a move to MainType!

Re: Creating new files without hidden characters

Thanks for your usual helpful suggestions. But unfortunately either I have not read the correct part of the manual or I have become too superficial in my reading approach. I think I understand both suggestions mentioned by Erwin. I also understand the Ansi character set which is the one I used by de...

Creating new files without hidden characters

I just noticed that when I create a new file, with or without outlines included, there remains present a host of foreign hidden characters with glyph outlines. If I go and look at the whole character set then I can see Korean, Arabic, Chinese characters as well as others, too. I thought that startin...

Re: Using Microsoft VOLT for OTF Design

Very good input Bhikkhu. Where do I get that Open Type Viewer from? I don't think that it's part of VOLT. Can't you produce some kind of tutorial as I personally need to get those OT feature I explained, in my previous input, built into my font asap. You seem to have the best knowledge in this field...

Re: Using Microsoft VOLT for OTF Design

This reply refers to Khikkhu and William in reverse order. Pcursive.ttf font is not a cursive font, William. It is a sanserif geometric typofont therefore not suitable for this exercise. Regarding Bhikkhu's comment on Contextual Ligatures and Stylistic Alternates, as well as the useful attachment, I...

Re: Using Microsoft VOLT for OTF Design

I noted William's remarks on copyright and I endorse them. I will try to work on a public domain font set. They do not have to be perfect but good enough for the exercise. Regarding the ligatures my personal feelings as a calligrapher is that they are not so useful other than if one is making mediev...

Re: Failure to install font: missing CLSID key

Addendum:
Till yesterday my Font Creator was running under Windows 7 64 bit with no problems. Now it's running on the same laptop but with Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.
Cheers

Re: Failure to install font: missing CLSID key

I just upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7. I tried to install some of my fonts and I got a refusal saying that I am needing a CLSID key. I tried to look for an upgrade but the reply was that my version of Font Creator is already updated. My version is 6.5 build 270.
Kindly advice.

Re: Using Microsoft VOLT for OTF Design

OK! I am going to prepare a ttf font file with some alternative characters and make it available as a platform for this VOLT discussion on my next posting. I am going to choose a cursive style font because that is where alternatives glyphs are really required. Most cursive (or copperplate) fonts ava...

Re: Using Microsoft VOLT for OTF Design

Hi chaps, I confess that maxwell's equations are far easier than navigating through this forum. Somehow I can't get the hang of it. So if you want to strat a new topic under VOLT please go ahead and do it. It seems appropriate to do so. But I do not know how to go about doing it. I am struggling wit...

Using Microsoft VOLT for OTF Design

I woul like to reopen this discussion but switch from the IME approach to OTF design with approapriate tables for GSUB, GPOS. GDEF, etc. I am using Microsoft VOLT. Does anyone have experience with this program? There is a tutorial available for download which explains how to adapt a ttf format to an...
