Perhaps I should have added that before today I WAS able to change those values and see the font change in the Test window. (And I'm working in Windows)...

Edit - changing the Windows Ascender/Descender thingie moves the black line ( gosh I'm in a technical mood today..;))
thanks!!

Can't change ascender / descender metrics ??

I'm trying to change the ascender and Descender values (Format - Settings - Metrics ), but for some reason they won't change ... help! I hit OK, Save all, see that it's saving but the black lines don't move. http://www.bennink.info/corien/ascdesc.jpg (Usually I just hit calculate, but in this case t...

Thanks, I see!
At the moment an upgrade for me won't be worth it though, 5.0 can do what I want.

From what I understand you import the scan as a background image and manually trace it?
I don't think that's going to take less time than what I'm doing now, and this works for me ;), thanks anyway though.

Agree wholeheartedly. You can see that FCP does exactly what it's supposed to do - outline the imported image as accurately as possible. The "problem" is that you can't always control what another person writes with. For the example I grabbed the nearest pen .. a medium nib fountain pen wi...

Thanks ! And you forgot the import without any adjustments at all ( straight from resized scan - the b in the font that was in the zip) 250 points and not so smooth: http://forum.high-logic.com/postedimages/fcp6noadjust.jpg That is what my letters used to look like before I figured out this "tr...

Auto update installed version of font you're working on ?

Would it be possible to automatically update the installed version ( in C:/Windows/Fonts) of the font you're working on? Now I need to manually uninstall/remove it - otherwise I get the "already installed/failed" message. Not a big nuisance at all, but since FCP can install, I wondered if ...

Sent you a link to a zip file with screenshots in PM. :)

Thanks! I'm going to try the circle :) Already had slanted guidelines but didn't know about the CTRL cursor keys. Where is the align tool? (FCP5.0 pro) - I'm just snapping to a horizontal/vertical guideline now.. (which also works) I really have to sit down and catch up on the forum tutorials here I...

But is there an easy way to change that *after* you've already applied all other changes needed :)? (aka : I've already put a lot of hours into this one and I'm not starting all over again). Also I'm already doing somthing very similar to what's explained in the link, but scanning causes slightly ja...

Even stroke width

Is there a fast/easy way to force all strokes to be an even, constant width?

(Scan ->me messing with it turning it into jpg ->import image caused an even stroke font to become a non-even stroke one).

Thanks!

Can't you just replace the ones you don't use ( YZ..) with the special characters ? Then you would just have to remember which key produces which character and you're done.

Thanks for the comments ! I need to fine tune it a bit ( lot) - indeed the 'h 'spacing ( don't think I'm missing an apostrophe by the way ? ), and my a is higher than my e which makes it look odd when they're next to eachother. The handwriting was done on fake vellum ( no bleeding ) with a B nibbed ...
