Re: Creating dingbat below base line
Thanks. I am mostly puzzled because they are not truncated in Paintshop Pro, but they are in Word. Just odd. Different programs make different assumptions about advance widths, ascent and descent distances, and their relation to the glyph bounding box. You may find that if you print that document i...

Re: Problems with font modified by FC on Android System
Yeah, paste special is not available on right-click, only under the edit menu, or with ctrl+e. If you copy the same number of empty glyphs as you are pasting, it will still work fine. A warning, though; if you copy multiple empty glyphs, then paste them after only selecting one, it will actually pas...

Re: Problems with font modified by FC on Android System
Instead of removing the glyphs, try blanking them and removing all the mappings. You should be able to do this in one step with "paste special". Doing that, you shouldn't screw up OT substitutions, which substitute by glyph index.

Re: Export a font as a sprite sheet?
Hey Erwin, could that be integrated into FCP for producing embedded bitmaps? It would be a nice to have some control over screen presentation, at a happy medium between grayscale/b&w and having to go through the monumental task of hinting.

Re: Get rid of Ligature
Some word processors will supply ligatures as a part of their autocorrect feature. Have you tried turning that off?

Re: Adinatha Tamil Brahmi font
I'll admit that I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of coverage. I'm seeing nothing mapped for candrabindu or anusvara; no independent or vowel sign L/R/LL/RR; no Kha/Ga/Gha, Cha/Jha, Ttha/Dda/Ddha, Tha/Da, Pha/Ba/Bha, and no numbers. I would have thought that the first functional Brahmi font (to m...

It's one of the tabs in the transform toolbar. Hit F6 to toggle it on.

Re: Why are intersecting coordinates bad?
My understanding is that it can cause inconsistencies in rendering. Some programs will display a self-crossing area as white, instead of black, and they can't compensate like they can for an uncrossing contour with the wrong winding. In other words, your FCP preview may not be what shows up with som...

Re: Creating a Opentype font for Brahmi
No. Uniscribe is the native windows OpenType feature engine, and it only recognizes and implements specific features for specific scripts and code points. It makes creating Arabic fonts really easy, because you don't have to program in all the logic of when you have initial/medial/final forms, you j...

Re: Creating a Opentype font for Brahmi
Bikkhu, the SMP is the Supplementary Multilingual Plane. Every five digit code point starting with "1" is in the SMP, which is why it is also often called "plane 1". There is also a Supplementary Ideographic Plane (SIP) at plane 2, and a Supplementary Special-purpose Plane (SSP) ...

Jamadagni, if you haven't gotten ahold of Unibook - http://unicode.org/unibook/ - I would suggest it. It will work with your regular code points, making a Unicode chart for your proposal. If you need to insert a large number of characters into the text of your proposal, then PUA points are probably ...

Re: Help with changing a font
Open Office and other word processors have the "outline" text formatting, which should do exactly what you want. You can then just print screen, and paste into paint or gimp, or whatever. I think that should do it for you.

Re: Auto copy a batch of characters from a font file to anot
1. The reason to use the original font file is that all the name fields, metrics, tables, italic angle, PANOSE, etc. don't have to be generated from scratch. 2. Check the font for a bunch of blue colored postscript names. It could be that a bunch of characters are actually composites that are simply...

Re: Auto copy a batch of characters from a font file to anot
Ok, make yourself a brand new font file with the same mapping platforms (check Format:Platforms) and add 30000 glyphs, then try doing the override range thing (I didn't even know about this feature before this conversation). Cut the 1000 selected glyphs from the origin font, then paste special with ...
